Hi,

I'm dying to do an Alaskan Cruise.....Heres my problem. I hear they are geared to an older crowd and not many kids.

I am 38 and a single mom(separated) with an 8 yr old daughter who i'm sure will not appreciate just looking out at the natural beauty:cool:

I see the Spirit just happens to do a cruise out of Seattle 7-26-11...which happens to be my 40th birthday.....

Should I wait to do my Alaskan cruise till I get older???.....Will there be kids....will there be any kind of nightlife for the under 50 crowd.

BTW....I am an old soul my ex is 17 yrs older than me....I just want to around some people my age....that has children.

Soooooooooooooooo should i stick to the Carribean for now and wait for my Alaskan adventure????

Thanks

K

we sailed NCL Star end of June/early July last year out of seattle

i've never seen so many kids on any cruise, including DCL, if she's inclined there will be plenty of company in the kids clubs, etc.

many of the shore excursions are quite physical and long in nature, there's alot more to do than watch the scenery roll by:) lots to keep ur daughter occupied

we had to contend w/3 to 5 hour time difference for various ports, it was a challenge for us to make it past 10 pm some nights. Things did tend to clear out after the last show, even the casino crowd got sparse.

There will be plenty of children onboard and plenty of nightlife.

We sailed on the Spirit in July 2005. There were 150 kids onboard.

I have 50 at the time and we had a BLAST.

Since this new route is from Seattle (instead of having to fly to Anchorage or Vancouver) I anticipate it having more families and more diversity in age....

since this is an easier port to get to....

I traveled solo on the Spirit to Alaska a few years ago and had a blast. There were some kids, altho I went late in the season so there wouldn't be as many.

There are so many options for fun activities that any age will enjoy. You can be as active as you want or sit still and gaze at the gorgeous scenery. Besides, CCL has a fantastic kids program.

Yikes...forgot about the time difference. Are they 3- 5 hrs ahead or behind....i always get confused on that. I am usually early to bed....and try to stay up for the nightlife.....even then i'm in bed by 1am....LOL....told u i was an old soul:D

This is sooooooooooo good to hear... I think i might do it.

OK....next question....I've heard port side is better.....don't know why.....lady from Carnival said so....so i believe her.....LOL>.....

I would LOVE to afford the aft wrap to have the best of both.

OK....here goes......for the Alaskan cruise....can't do the aft wrap....Is an Aft cabin FAR MORE SUPERIOR because you can see both sides???

I like my privacy and the sound of the ocean lapping against the boat in a regular balcony cabin....BUT...ALASKA IS ALL ABOUT THE BEAUTY ArounND US. Do I need AFT for that????

Thanks

When we went in August 2005, there were few children. Lots of families but it seemed like everyone had reached their full height, if you know what I'm sayin. We did a kayaking excursion, and I remember some kids your daughter's age on that.

The nightlife for the adults was awesome. We had a ridiculously good time on that cruise!!!

We cruised on Princess to Alaska in 2008 (we were 24 & 25 at the time). There was a big variety of ages on the ship- from families with young kids to our 80 year old dinner companions. Based on the crowds we saw in the ports, I would say this is probably true for the other lines as well. We had a great time on the cruise and really loved seeing the sights and doing a lot of outdoor activity.

OP seattle runs on PST (3 hours later than EST):) Most of the ports were 4 hours. Some nights it was still light out when we went to bed, glad for the blackout curtains

seattle is quite an interesting place for kids too if u can manage some extra time pre-cruise, check out the port board here

*i found such a great rate last year 2 weeks before final payment date was due, i jumped w/o much research. Only later did i find out we missed the salmon run/bears in ketchikan which i believe is late July...guess we'll have to go back lol

*if you can, book a balcony. We hit foul weather & it was way too breezy/cold/rainy to be out on deck; glad we had one. I talked to several passengers who were unhappy that the prime 'public' spots were staked out early. Im told the temp rises about 60 degrees & the sun shines in alaska, we just never saw it.;)

.....to Alaska next year. On that cruise he will turn Platinum.

Even though he might not appreciate Alaska @ 14, I'm sure one day he'll be glad he saw it when he did.

:D

wasiii

I'm hoping my DD who will be 9 then appreciates it....I know I will.

Yikes.....what time does the sun set in Alaska???

I'm thinking of the 7-26 cruise....so hopefully we will see the bears.....from a distance of course...LOL....

Balcony....most definately.....I'm just wondering if I "NEED" to book an Aft cabin....so I can see both sides.....will I constantly wonder what i am missing on the other side....In the middle of the ocean....dosen't matter.....but what if the iceburg breaks on the port side and i"m on starboard:o Geez.....If I was ever to REALLY want the Aft Wrap ahem...i mean afford....Alaska would be the place.
