Just informed of Cunards new smoking policy?

Couldn't have said this better myself!

I am sure you will continue to meet people who will wave their arms about when they have to walk through your smoke, they are letting you know that they are breathing in toxic fumes and having to carry round with them the lingering smell of your addition on their clothes and in their hair until they have the chance to wash it all out.

The non smokers on the ship have paid the same price as the smokers and should be able to enjoy all of the ship as can the smokers.. just not while they are smoking. Why should non smokers have to leave their balcony just because the people on the next one are being anti social.

Most smokers were never considerate, maybe if they had had the manners to not smoke right next to people while they were eating or chain smoking in bars whilst others who did not smoke were trying to enjoy an evening out, the ban would have never happened in the first place.

And for those smokers out there who say that the casino was empty on no smoking nights really have no idea how vile the room smells from the day before.

For once, just once, would people begin to think about someone besides themselves. What is wrong with people. You, MrandMrsBee, are one of those non-smokers that is just plain rude in every word you speak. You are the kind that won’t let it go and will not be satisfied until all smoking is banned everywhere. And you will continue with your insults and your antics until it happens. In my opinion, the rudeness that has ensued because of smoking is far worse than the smoking itself. It isn't as if the smoker can turn it on and off the minute he enters a ship There is plenty of room for both smoker and non-smoker alike. What there isn’t room for is rude people-- because nobody really wants that kind of person around.

In my opinion, the rudeness that has transpired over the smoking issue is very much worse than the smoking itself. It isn’t as if the smokers on the ships can easily stop when they go on their cruise. There is plenty of room for both smokers and non-smokers alike. What there isn’t room for is rude people because nobody really wants that kind of person around.

Thank you, PM. My honeymoon period with the Beees has been the shortest in history.

I was going to say that at least the tactless poster has succeeded in uniting smokers, non-smokers and anti-smokers in our combined distaste for his/her unusual viewpoint: pity I can't any more.

and thank you from me as well. The rudeness displayed by some posters who refuse to tolerate anything other than their own wishes is frustrating in the least.

The only area that i can think of that impacted on non-smokers was actually the casino - hell, I'm a smoker and it drove me nuts these people that would chain smoke whilst sitting at the table. How the croupiers could cope was beyond me. BUT, areas like the golden lion where you could smoke in the corner where it was well ventilated were ideal. The queens grill lounge, hell I didn't even know there was a smoking area until I physically saw someone light up as the ventilation in there was top notch.

It would not be a hardship for Cunard to set aside some [small] areas in the ship to accommodate all persuasions. Card players get a room (I don't play cards), cigar smokers have a [ very small ] room, I don't smoke cigars - god knows what it will be like with all the smokers in there as well.

Don't get me wrong, i know where the non-smokers are coming from - at times the casino could be quite overwhelming but the golden lion/queens grill room (ok not accessible to everyone) managed adequately with the excellent air con they have on board.

I would urge Cunard to consider either a sheltered outside area or at least another room on the ship to accommodate smokers.

I have just expressed an opinon that you dislike, I have not been rude. Unlike yourself in the above statement.

I think you will find my viewpoint is not unusual

I do not believe that there is any "rudeness" expressed by RealPM unlike some of the posts I have read today (and in the past). An inability to see beyond ones' own position is a trait I find more deplorable - especially when it is expressed in such a rude manner.

I can''t work out if you're being deliberately obtuse, or if you really are that dense that you cannot see that the tone of your posts on smoking threads are worded such as to inflame people. Rudeness can take many forms...sometimes it can be an inflection too...

I will be on the QM2 for 22 days starting on 4/29 which is one of the first cruises under the new policy. They have had my money for months. I will get to see the complaints from the smokers at the front desk first hand. If I had a Suite booked in November I am not sure I would do anything yet. The Transatlantic portions of my cruise are not fully booked, but the European portion are wait listed. I would be interested in seeing if Cunard will refund the money on any smoker who did not like being blind sided by this last minute change in the smoking policy. I'm sure many Brits and German's on this cruise will not be happy by this last minute policy change. I do not think it is right to change a policy like this after final payments have been received. Please comment if you agree. I feel the back lash could force Cunard to change the policy again.

I can't help but feel that all the smoke (pun intended) blown on this board in the past few weeks is not going to change anything with Cunard. Vent if you must, but do it to Cunard. There is no guarantee that comments left here will make any difference in Cunard's policy, and we certainly can't make a difference by going on about it here, no matter how long--or boring--these threads get.

And then let's resume the delightful banter that used to grace these pages.

The fact that smokers feel the need to start calling someone rude because they do not like a persons opinion indicates that you have no idea what non-smokers object to.

It still does not change the fact that smoking to a non-smoker is awful. I am glad that Cunard are changing their policies.

Why, then, are almost all of your posts regarding smoking policies and inflammatory to boot? Have you not seen the other thread where people were coming together to find common ground? Of course not, you only want the entire world to change to your liking...

I live in THE most restrictive area to smokers...SF Bay Area. Years back, when your types won out and smoking was pulled from pubs (didn't mind as a smoker) what did they do? Drunk with power and arrogance, they went after DOG PARKS! Thats right, dogs, because they found another group that they could build up to tear down.

Too bad that you decided to be so one-sided. I also take offense at the your assertion that all smokers are rude, vile people. Please, if you've nothing constructive, go back from whence you came...

I suppose you think that constructive would mean me having an opinion agreeable to yours?

I do find many smokers rude.

I come from a place that has free speech with a right to express my opinion.

I suppose you think that constructive would mean me having an opinion agreeable to yours? Not at all. Just instead of spouting the same thing over and over...come with a solution. We know your position, no need to repeat it ad naseum.

I do find many smokers rude. Painting with a wide brush, no? There are rude people from all aspects of life.

I come from a place that has free speech with a right to express my opinion. As do I. No one has attempted to stifle your views, or even discount them. But we are trying to work to a solution, not just close our head to any compromise.

They first banned smoking, and I didn't speak up because I didn’t smoke, only anti-social people smoked. Then they banned the selling of alcoholic drinks, and I didn't speak up because I didn’t drink very much and others drank to excess. Then they banned the eating of meat, and I didn't speak up because I’ll grow accustomed to nuts and lentils. Then they banned enjoyment, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn‘t enjoying myself anyway with no cigarettes, scotch or steaks. Then they banned the freedom to have individual thoughts, dreams, wishes. And by that time I thought the same as everyone else, of course. (with thanks to Pastor Martin Niemoller).
