BeancounterUSA Posted March 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2010 I'm staying pre-cruise for one night at the San Jaun Marriott resort and Stellaris casino on July 17th. Will be on the Serenade on the 18th. My flight from Alabama to San Juan leaves early in the morning and, after a brief layover in Charlotte, is scheduled to arrive in San Juan at 3:18pm on Sat the 17th. Here are the questions: 1. At what time can I expect to arrive at the Marriott if using a cab from the airport after claiming my luggage? Is a cab the quickest way? 2. Bus service from the Marriott to Old San Juan? How long does it take and how much does it cost. The reason that I ask is I'm trying to work in the Fajardo Bioluminescent bay kayaking trip from Kayaking Puerto Rico. They will pick me up at the Hotel but the pickup time is 4:15pm. Seems like that is cutting it a little close given our scheduled landing time. My alternative might be to rent a car (I think the Marriott has an on-site Hertz) and driving myself to arrive at the tour before 6:15pm. Need some advice on what I should do. Thanks in advance. Oaktree Posted March 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2010 I recently arrived in SJ at 10pm, picked up bags, got taxi and was in Condado by 10:30pm. Afternoon may be busier, but I think you could be there at 4:15. Things are usually a little behind schedule, so 4:15 in SJ could be 4:30.

I don't think you are going to make it using their transportation. Assuming the plane is not late (which it probably won't be right on time), I find it takes a long time for luggage to come out. Getting a taxi is quick and it is only a short ride to the Marriott (maybe 10 mins). But then you have to check in to the hotel, which could also take a while. If you rent a car....that gives you a little more time (though some car rental places take forever), but it is (at that time of day) going to take about 1.25 hrs to get to Fajardo. But the tour doesn't start until about 6:30-6:45 this time of year. Bus to OSJ is $0.75 I believe. It takes about 45 mins (it makes a weird route and many stops). billybob123 Posted March 19, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2010 Bus to OSJ is $0.75 I believe. And it is coins only. The farebox doesn't take bills. It might be a wait in both directions as well, but it certainly is easy to take the bus in SJU.
