Snackdaddy Posted March 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2010 Greetings, We just booked the May 19, 2011 sailing of the Brilliance OTS and will stop in Venice for about 31 hours. What do you recommend for first-timers in Venice? Thanks.
euro cruiser Posted March 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2010 Mostly just walking and wandering - it's the best way to enjoy Venice. The Doge's Palace Secret Itineraries Tour is excellent, but should be reserved in advance (although not this far in advance!). The basilica is wonderful as well. The Rialto bridge and market. GSPLover Posted March 20, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 20, 2010 Murano is nice to see (don't buy a lot); and Burano is excellent. Ambiance is excellent. Just be careful which vaperetto you catch coming back (there is one that loops around all islands back to San Marco that takes forever.) Look closely at the departure/arrival times on all departures and make certain that you have time.
bluenoser2 Posted March 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2010 31 hours.....wow....we had almost 3 days at the end of our cruise 2 years ago, and used every minute - it was our favourite city, and we did it all on our own. As was mentioned, walk, walk and walk! Sometimes we just TRIED to get lost, but we always found our way back. Have a gelato somewhere along the way, go to Rialto Bridge, eat at many of the little places along the way (not all at once of course!), ride a vaporetto for the whole route just to see the city from a different viewpoint....go up the clocktower, listen to all the musicians in the square and feed the pigeons....ride in a gondola, and then watch the gondolas, and find the singing gondoliers....awwww, I'm getting misty just thinking about it all! Have a wonderful 31 hours!
Snackdaddy Posted March 26, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted March 26, 2010 Thank you very much for your helpful comments. We'll probably wind up doing a walking tour on our own and lots of wandering... Thanks again.
