Small Hand Luggage Bag

Have posted this on Air Thread, but got no response, so trying here!

 

Has anybody flown from Gatwick recently on Thomas Cook to Montego Bay? Did they check the size of your hand luggage and/or weight?

 

Weight is not so much a problem, but really struggling to get hand luggage 43cm x 28cm x 23cm. All our bags are bigger than this (even my hand bag:rolleyes:).

 

Are they really strict regarding the size, or can you be reasonaly within that size - e.g. an inch or so more?

 

Please help as we are about to embark, and really struggling to find anything suitable. Even the smallest of our rucksacks are too big!

What you are looking for is a small tote/purse sized bag.

 

Another excuse to go shopping:p

 

Do the airports have testers that the bags need to fit into. If the too large bag fits into the tester, bunched up would it be OK?
