Costa Atlantica / Eastern Caribbean

We will be on the Eastern leg of the Costa Atlantica's Caribbean route beginning 3/27. There will be seven ships in port in St. Thomas (including the Oasis) and five in Nassau. Has anyone returned recently who knows if we will have to tender in St. Thomas due to the heavy pax load?

Just off the ship on Mar. 20.

 

We didn't tender anywhere.

 

St. Thomas we were at Crown Bay terminal. Parked next to Oasis. A Carnival ship was the only one that tendered.

San Juan we were at the downtown pier. Only ship at this pier

Nassau we were there with 5 other ships, Oasis being one of them.

what was your favorite thing about the entire cruise? what were the great things about this ship/cruise? things not to be missed? any tips or special things you discovered that you could share? i see you have cruised a lot and I am sure there are tips you could share with us who are leaving in a few days.

Likes:

 

 

1. Happy Hour twice a day, 11-noon and 4-5pm. Two for one drinks!

 

2. Bartenders and bar waiters were very friendly and hard working: especially those at Madame Butterfly and then on deck 10 pool area.

 

3. Food, subjective I know, but we liked almost everything we were served

 

4. Cabin #8261 – a/c worked really well, brrrr!

 

5. Casino – paid out a bit. Well laid out, not cramped.

 

6. Elevators – fast and available

 

7. Melania – past guest program coordinator

 

8. Fast embarkation and disembarkation

 

 

Dislikes:

 

1. Cabin noise from Galley located above it

 

2. Reception desk staff, not very helpful

 

3. People who reserved lounge chairs for hours without using them

 

4. 12-17 year olds in Disco after midnight

 

5. Aft vibration of ship

 

6. Having to hide your curling iron so it doesn’t get confiscated

 

7. No shampoo or lotion provided

 

8. Excessively long horn blasts as we left port

 

9. Port time in Nassau too short

 

10. Long wait time to call reception desk

 

11. Coffee is too strong, room service coffee doesn’t come in an insulated pot, so it gets cold real fast.

 

12. Cabin #8265 was so loud that they our friends were upgraded to a balcony on deck 5 #5236!

i just finished the cruise on the Atlantica on the 21st.

There are no problems at any of the ports just slight distance in St. Thomas to the downtown area.

i had the 1st sitting at it was at 6pm

Disco always did have young kids (upsetting...couldnt 'let loose' haha)

Food was amazing, no complaints

Cabin #4214 no complaints accept that the bathroom light sort of lagged when turned on

other then all that

i am QUITE faithful to Costa and never look back on my choice

Thanks so much for your replies! Very helpful!! One more question about the Atlantica. We have received mixed messages about the need for a 220 to 110 power converter. Costa says all the cabins have now been converted for 110 but some cruisers coming off say nope, not true. Some have said that the only 110 outlet is in the bathroom and is limited to electric razors. Should we take an 220/110 adapter so we can charge our cell phones, plug in a small clock radio, etc. We've read that a lot of people have had to hide their curling irons & blow dryers or risk getting them confiscated. If they haven't converted then it makes sense that they would confiscate small electrical appliances that produce heat.

There is one 115 outlet located at the desk/vanity area. This is the only outlet that we used. It didn't require any convertor. I did bring a three way adapter for it, so I could charge multiple items at the same time....however, the warnings in the daily paper tell you that using a multiple adaptor is illegal too. I used it when we were in the cabin, and then put it away while we were gone. Same with my curling iron. Some cabin stewards don't confiscate..some will. The outlet in the bathroom is not 110/115 and is label electric razor only.

How do I keep them from taking it from my luggage.

Did you have yours in your carry on luggage or the bags you give the porter to bring on board.

I carried my curling iron on in my carryon luggage. I don't think the xray technicians were Costa people.

Enjoyed reading all of your posts. I just have a couple questions. We are taking the Atlantica April 24 and am curious if I need to bring my own hair blower and shampoo. I have never been on a cruise/hotel that did not provide these items. Thanks.

A hair dryer is provided, shampoo is not. There is a body wash pumper in the shower, but I didn't use it for my hair.

Thanks pboedeker! I can handle bringing shampoo since I actually prefer my own but didn't want to bring a hair blower! Whew!!

We were on Norwegian Dawn last year and Costa was docked in St. Thomas -right next to our ship... which is why we are taking Costa this year - it looked like a beautiful ship. :rolleyes:
