Carnival Size Enforcements-Cooler & Carryons

Anyone know how much they enforce the size requirements 12" x 12" x 12" for coolers and carryons?

 

I have one I'd like to ship thru with waters & sodes but its bigger 12" x 14" x 17" than that?

 

I really hate to have to carry it on, because we have Grandpa in a wheelchair to deal with too!

It depends, but the posts I have read said that Carnival was rather strict, by even 1/2 inch, about coolers larger than 12x12x12 holding beverages, including water or soda. Did not matter whether checked or carry-on. See this recent thread

 

And, more recently, they have instituted the unlocked checked baggage rule and have admitted it is to look for prohibited items. Can you put the water/soda in a backpack rather than the cooler?
