cougar 17 Posted March 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2010 Just got back Saturday from a fantastic 5 day cruise on the Century. The ship was beautiful and in great shape. The food was wonderful as were the shows. There were alot of spring breakers on board but they were all fairly well behaved and added a little excitement to the cruise. I had the frozen drink package and it was well worth it. We had select dinning and made reservations for 8 o'clock every night without any problems or wait. We ate at Muranos once and enjoyed it. All and all it was a great cruise!
chunterc Posted March 22, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2010 glad you had a great trip! We are heading out on the century this thurs. Can't wait! Do you mind me asking what deck you were on? We are on the penthouse deck 10 now but have a chance to move to the sports deck 12? I'm not sure what the differences are?
cougar 17 Posted March 22, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted March 22, 2010 I do not know anything about deck 10 but we loved deck12. There was really nothing above us except a walking or jogging path. One floor down right below us was the entrance to the buffet which was so convienent as well as the pool area. There are not alot of rooms on deck 12 which was also nice. I would switch to deck 12 if I were you. Enjoy your cruise.
Tiki_Man Posted March 22, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2010 Cougar Couple of questions. If you were on Deck 12 did you hear any noise from the basketball court above you? Did you make your reservations for Murano's before cruise or after embarkation? How was baggage claim at departure, anything unusual or did it go pretty quick? Did you use the Butler for any extra service? Could you have ordered a bottle of wine for the room using the Butler? Thanks, we are in a SS on deck 12 for the April 8th sailing. Any other thoughts would be great. Tiki
cougar 17 Posted March 22, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted March 22, 2010 Tiki, We did not hear any noise at all. The basketball court is actually two levels up from our floor. What is nice about deck 12 is that your balcony is partially uncovered so that you can get some sun. We made our reservations for Murano right when we got on the ship. We ate there the second night which was formal night so it was not crowded. Men must wear a coat at Muranos. If you do not have one they will give you one. We utilized our butler for any reservation changes we had. We also had him bring cushions for our lounge chairs right when we came on. The butler provides tea service to your room everyday at 3 and we also had him bring us cookies and coffee every night. Right when we got on the ship we had them page the butler to our room to let him know what we liked and ask what services he had to offer us. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Orator Posted March 22, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2010 Was on the same cruise and agree it was wonderful. SS on deck 12 have larger balconies. I also dined at Muranos and jackets were not required.
Tiki_Man Posted March 22, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2010 I wear a Jacket to dinner everynight so no problem. Looking forward to the large balcony. We have been on the M class several times but never the Century. Wife is a big fan of the AquaSpa cafe. We also like to workout in the gym each morning. Any idea how many aerobic machines they had? Did you try bfast or lunch in the aquaspa cafe? Great idea to have cushions for the lounger's brought out first day. How was the lifeboat drill? Same ole, same ole ~ about 4:00 standing outside? We are going to try Murano's a couple of times if we can get reservations. Just booked this last week so have not been able to do the online so far. Again, thanks for the info. cougar 17 Posted March 22, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted March 22, 2010 We did not utilize the gym nor did we eat at Aqua Spa although it did look nice. The drill was held in the casino at first with no lifejackets then we walked outside as a group. It was all very quick. We could not get reservations for Murano online either but right when we got onboard we went there and made reservations or you can pick up a house phone and ask to be connected to the restaurant. For disembarking we chose ealry disembarking which was at 745 and carried our own luggage of. That was the way to go. It was so hassle free. Who likes worrying about packing up your luggage by a certain time the night before. One other thing, we carried to twelve packs of pop onboard. You can also carry two bottles of wine onboard to drink in your room.
Tiki_Man Posted March 22, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 22, 2010 This is excellent info. We are planning to carry one Bag each (since its only 4 nights) and carry them off also. Flight is not until Noon back to Atl so no hurries. I have brought a couple bottles of wine before but now with flight restrictions it is getting harder and harder. We both enjoy a glass or wine or cocktail on our balcony as we are getting ready for dinner, just hate trudging back and forth to the bar, altough I guess there is the Mast Bar on deck 12, just down the Hall? Good news about life boat drill. Looking forward to just a quick getaway. If Sun is good we will probably just use our balcony and read a book in the peace and quite (with a bucket of beer from the pool bar :) Thanks again Tiki
Orator Posted March 22, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 22, 2010 Be sure to see Ti-Ann, the Captain's club hostess-she is great.Pawelin the MDR is a rare treasure. These two really made my cruise.
cougar 17 Posted March 22, 2010 Author #11 Share Posted March 22, 2010 We had our cab from the airport stop at a store so that we could run in and grab what we needed. It was a set price from the airport to the port and he did not mind stopping which was very nice.
citruscruiser Posted March 27, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2010 Cougar 17, Do your think the upgrade from a CC to Sky Suite is worth it? I don't want to lose my CC perks (pillow menu etc). Is most of the extra sq footage in the bath vs living area? Thanks
montgomeryfamily Posted March 29, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 29, 2010 Cougar17, who was your butler? When we were on the Century in December in a Sky Suite on the 12th deck, our butler refused to bring us cushions for the lounge chairs--said it was not allowed. Also, did you have a regular coffee at night or one of the speciality coffees? We wanted a cappucino at night but our butler said it was only complimentary if we had it for breakfast or dinner in the suite. So he refused to bring that also outside of those times. sheldrvrT6A Posted March 29, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 29, 2010 Really appreciate the info all have given as this is going to be our first Celeb cruise and 11th over all most with RCL. I read on another thread that this gentleman had his two bottles of wine confiscated at the Port of Miami as he said it was the Port authority not Celeb...anyone had any recent experiences with that? Also noting the butler duties as we have a SS coming up and wondered if you had an issue with the butler do you go to concierge host? On RCL we had a room steward that was not usiing his talents with us and one trip to concierge host and all was cleared up as the steward was completely different after a meeting I am sure. We are really laid back folks on a cruise but sometimes you have to assert as this has only happened once and rest of time all cruises and stewards were great. I read that same post. I called Celebrity and asked them and they assured me that 2 bottles of wine per cabin were allowed. I don't understand why that poster had an issue? I'd also like to hear from recent X cruisers out of Miami.
Holly2 Posted March 29, 2010 #16 Share Posted March 29, 2010 We were in SS 1222 and had Wilfred as our butler - the first morning he brought us cushions for the chaises. Can't imagine why anyone would object.
cougar 17 Posted March 29, 2010 Author #17 Share Posted March 29, 2010 I forgot our butler's name. It was something like Eino. He gladly brought us cushions.
montgomeryfamily Posted March 30, 2010 #18 Share Posted March 30, 2010 We were in 1201 on the starboard side and our butler was Jude. Wildfred was working opposite cabins on the port side--I saw him a couple of times working when I was looking for Jude. The supposed rationale for the refusal to provide the cushions was that those weren't provided for the balconies anymore and that Housekeeping would not allow him to provide those for the Sky Suites, even upon guest request--that we had to use the pool lounges if we wanted lounges with cushions. We thought that was very lame too, and would have just practiced self help, as we have done before sans butler, except that the balcony for this wheelchair accessible stateroom also did not have a ramp and so we could not use the balcony as we could not get out there. It was the fourth day of a five day cruise and several complaints before we got a ramp for our balcony and so by that time we just decided not to pursue getting cushions. Chrisv94 Posted March 30, 2010 #19 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Was on the same cruise and agree it was wonderful. SS on deck 12 have larger balconies. I also dined at Muranos and jackets were not required. I'm on deck 10 with a SS for the 4/8 sailing. I called Celebrity to inquire about the balcony size as I suspected its smaller than the advertised 179sf. They told me it was indeed 179sf but im skeptical. Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks!!:)
sheldrvrT6A Posted March 30, 2010 #20 Share Posted March 30, 2010 smartcookie Thanks a bunch for the information on the wine....the gentleman might have had something other than wine as that is not permitted we were told and he might have not mentioned THAT. We were told by our TA as we have SS 1225 that the balcony is indeed 179sf but never sailing on Celebrity I guess we will see when we walk into room. Jerry/Tami We're in SS 1226, right across the hall. I believe all but 2 or 3 SS on deck 12 are 179 sq, feet and all of those on deck 10 as well. The difference between balconies on the 2 decks are that those on 12 are partially uncovered, allowing for sunbathing and those on 10 are fully covered for full shade. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's my understanding?
