We did the Ultimate Ship's Tour on the Caribbean Princess in February. You sign up at the Purser's desk. They only take 12 passengers so if more than that sign up there is a lottery to see who gets to go. The is $150/person. DH and I both went.

We met the Assistant Cruise Director near the theater. She was our escort for the day. Once everyone was present we went backstage and toured the dressing rooms and under the stage where the lifts are. From there we went to the kitchen and met with the Executive Chef and Purchasing Manager. We went into one of the freezers and the produce cooler. The chef explained to us how the kitchen "worked". From there we went to the control room and had the chief engineer explain how things worked in there. Then on to the print shop where we were presented with personalized stationary. Next was the photo lab where all the pictures are printed up. On we went to the laundry. The laundry manager showed us the washing machines, how they get the wrinkles out of shirts, the mangle where the table cloths are dried then folded and finally the miniature mangle for drying and folding napkins. The medical center was next. The medical director showed us the morgue and the clinic and hospital areas. The first officer took us up into the funnel of the ship. There were a lot of narrow steps to get up there but well worth the climb. Finally we went to the bridge where the captain greeted us with champagne and hors d'oeuvres. A junior staff member took us around the bridge and explained how the various instruments worked.

All in all it was a great tour that we thought was well worth the cost. After returning to our cabin we were presented with a chef's coat, a fluffy robe and pictures taken throughout the tour by one of the ship's photographers.

The release we signed prior to the tour stated that no pictures were allowed. We slipped my small camera in DH's pocket and at each stop asked if photos were allowed. Everyone allowed us to take pictures in their area including the captain who only asked that no video be taken on the bridge, only still photos.
