Smoking on Conquest

I have read that the Conquest is smoke-filled, which may or may not be a big deal for me. My DH is a smoker, so he's into it. You can't smoke in ANY public building in Delaware where we live, even casinos. Anyway, is smoking allowed in cabins? I don't remember being given the option when booking. I'd like to tell DH it's non-smoking even if it isn't. How about dining room?

Thanks,

We were just on the Conquest in November and I didn't have any problem with excessive smoke on the ship,:) and smoke makes me pretty sick too. The only places where there was a lot of smoke was in the lounges and casino. I never noticed it during the shows, in the dining room, or during any ship sponsored game or contest. The smokers normally went out on deck to smoke unless they were in the casino or a lounge. So both you and your dh should be happy.;)

Unfortunately Im a smoker but do go out of my way to respect non smokers so would never soke in non desiginated palces and found the places were it was allowed,,,,,definite no no in the dining rooms and the buffet, out side the buffet near the bar it was ok, one side of the ship outdoors is smoke free while its ok to somke on the other side,,,shows, no smoking,,, Casino and most bars are ok to smoke in but never noticed any smoke filled areas at all,,,I think most smokers are good about it though there are always the inconsiderate few,,hope this helps, I dont think it will be a problem for you, maybe only at a Black Jack table when in close proximity but otherwise you may never know they are there

We were on the Glory last year and they had eliminated smoking from the hallways and elevator areas. Up on Lido deck outside, one side of the ship allowed smoking and one did not. Same in the main atrium area inside - one side yes, one no. Some of the lounges had been designated non-smoking too. I know the lounge where they had the adult comedies was non-smoking. It tells you in the Capers. Since I've been cruising, we've never been able to smoke in the main lounge or the dining rooms. In the cabins, it doesn't matter but I smoke on the balcony any way since my son is in the cabin.

If you really want to fool your husband by telling him the cabins are all non-smoking, you'll probably be able to get away with it, as there are no ashtrays in the cabins. I'm a smoker, and I have always had to ask my cabin steward for an ashtray.

As mentioned above, the dining rooms and Lido Deck dining area are all non-smoking, as is the main show lounge, and several of the other lounges. In the main pool area, one side is smoking and the other non.

I find that most smokers are considerate (as am I), and try not to infringe on the rights of non-smokers. There ARE, however, some who just don't care and can be very rude about it....like any other place you'd go.

I noticed on my last Holiday cruise that the Promenade area is now non-smoking, but on the cruise before, smoking was allowed at the tables by the windows. Also, the ashtray stands had been removed from the elevator lobbies - which is a good thing, because some idiots actually got onto elevators with cigarettes...

Although it has been almost a year since we were on the Conquest, I never noticed smoke to be a problem....and I am annoyed by it so if it were a real problem I for sure would have noticed it. Casino is smoky at times but that just goes with the territory.

Just finished a cruse on the Conquest last week and we could not eat in the outside areas due to all the smokers. I know it's their right, but I can't stand second hand smoke. Our cabin also had the faint smell of past smokers, but we kinda got used to it. We'll probably even rethink our next vacation.......not sure if we want another smoky cruise. Just my 2 cents.

We did not know there were no non smoking rooms when we booked our cruise. I do not think we would have booked knowing that all rooms have been smoked in. Realistically, smoke gets into the bedspreads, rugs, curtains, etc. I am disappointed that I did not check this out better. Our TA did not say a word when we said non smoking and our reservation even says non smoking dinner.

Brittfan, you may want to check out the Carnival Paradise for your next cruise - it is completely non-smoking. I "heard" that if they catch you smoking, they leave you in the next port. But, personally, I think if they have a non-smoking ship, they should also have an all smoking ship.

Paradise is a smoking ship now.

Most smokers are very considerate. You shouldn't worry about it. The ventilation systems on the ships work miracles. Only place I noticed a "lingering" smell of smoke was in the casino.

Enjoy your cruise :)

I didn't realize people could smoke in their rooms........and I've cruised before. That's proof that the cabins don't smell. They must have a very good ventilation system or not that many people smoke in their rooms. Before we cruised the Inspiration, people said it was so smokey. I never smelled any smoke...and I am very sensitive to it. Don't worry.:)

since 1998 and have never detected the slightest smoke odor in our cabin....and I am extremely sensitive to it. They have always done a wonderful job cleaning the rooms. And remember, I know the stink is aggrevating...but the stink won't hurt you...just the active smoke. If you happen to get a room that needs some additional attention...just ask your steward...they will be more than happy to clean it again. Personally, I always take "Oust" with me, because I am so sensitive to it. But then I also take Clorox spray and disinfect the room completely before my family comes in. (and I do mean completely)

We love cruising, but I was afraid that our cruising days were over from the active smoke. I would bring antibiotics with me to start about the 3rd day of fighting an ear infection. Then it would be 3 weeks of bron. infection and throat inflamation to contend with afterward.

Yes, we went on the Paradise once before she lost her virginity. (We would have sailed her every time, if they would have moved her to a more convenient port...but they did not.)

The good news is that since they made all their ships "smoking", they finally had the common sense to introduce reasonable restrictions that really give the best of both worlds. We were on the Sensation this past Thanksgiving and the new regs are wonderful. We are cruising to Alaska in July!!!

Carnival implements "designated smoking areas". Instead of trying to mandate where people "can't smoke"....but simply put plenty of places around where they can. These designate smoking areas are listed in the Capers every day. As a non-smoker, I learned where every spot was. This helped me avoid it AND I was able to help direct smokers to those areas when they were searching.

The only real change was no smoking on the Promenade and no smoking at the Atrium bar.

I don't do the casinos and karaoke was held in the small theater on the back (which has always been non-smoking). Since the Promenade was smoke free and the Atrium was smoke free....it was a glorious cruise.

And out of all the smokers...we only had two that acted like they were drinking their "first beer". This speaks highly of all those smokers who are courteous and respectful. As a result, no antibiotics, no ear infection and no 3 weeks of bron infection and throat inflamation!!!!! Thank you Carnival!

I did notice that on the Capers which listed all the "designated smoking areas"....the cabins were not listed??? I think Carnival uses a don't ask, don't tell in that area. Personally though, it does surprise me that cabins are not off limits to smoking with the fire hazard at sea so high. Again, Carnival does a wonderful job cleaning between cruises.

Just a note, if you are a balcony smoker....just kinda notice if your neighbors are smoking on their balcony...if they are not, please try to wait until they are not there to smoke on yours. I know this is an inconvenience...but after all....you are the one with the habit....so common sense dictates that you should be the one inconvenienced...right???

As I said, I really think the changes are the best of both worlds.

I have said all along if Carnival had put as much money and time into creating a proper air filtration system on all their ships...that they put into the Paradise...we would all have been happier!!!

Rediculous...and no I shouldn't be inconvenienced.

Mom, aren't you still within the cancellation period? You would not be penalized if you cancelled now... I'm not sure why your TA would have even ASKED you "smoking or non smoking", as that has zero relevance.... that is extremely odd. But since your cruise is not until July, you should be fine cancelling and getting your money back. Good luck.

I had not thought of cancelling but I doubt that the cancelling idea will go over very well as we invited two other families to go with us. I am usually a very optimistic person so I am done complaining! (or rather complaining about what it might be like!) I will take inhalers, decongestants, advil and pray for the best!
