Round trip taxi for 2 people to unpopular destination

My understanding is that there are few if any traditional taxis. Most taxis are vans. We want to go to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on the Sunday morning we will be docked. The address is 28 Lower John Dunkoe, Charlotte Amalie. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a taxi to this location and back to the ship? We want to leave around 9am and be back to the ship by noon or 1pm as we have a shore excursion planned for later in the day.

Thanks

Hello SMonica,

John Dunko is just outside of downtown Charlotte Amalie. A taxi from the cruise ship dock should be around $5 per person, one way. You would likely need to arrange for the driver to return for you at a set time. The taxis at the ship generally try to find other people going in a similar direction - in your case they would likely try to get folks going to town or to Lindberg Beach so they can group you all together and make more money from the one trip. They would drop the folks gong to town first. If you have to be at your destination by a set time and are concerned about time then you should let this be known to the driver and ask whether you will make it. You may need to get a private taxi so they go straight to your destination gather than taking other passengers, you will pay more for a private taxi. You can look into it all ahead of time so you can be sure of prices and perhaps even arrange it before hand so a taxi is waiting for you at the dock and also waiting when you are ready to leave and return to the ship. Try: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=st.+thomas+taxi+%2B+rates&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=.

PS: you may want to call Kingdom Hall and get more detailed directions. If the taxi driver isn't familiar with its location and can't get another driver to help with directions, you all might be circling around the area looking for it. Get a few landmarks it is close to (like a particular bank or a school etc.).
