lmmn Posted May 30, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2004 I typically travel with friends, so cabin choice has always been easy. This trip is with my DH and two teenage kids. I have booked a balcony cabin on Deck 7 and an inside right across. I like the idea of two cabins, especially the two bathrooms for getting ready. I'm also hearing that the Deck 7 balconies are obstructed so you cannot look below. How bad is this obstruction for an Alaska cruise? Another option for a few hundred dollars more would be to book a Junior Suite on Deck 10. Has anyone stayed in a JS with four? laurieny Posted May 30, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2004 We booked 1602, a Jr Suite on Deck 10, for myself, my husband and our 12 year old son on the Serenade for both a cruise last March to the Caribbean and one to Alaska coming up in July. I would definitely get this cabin for four if the kids will share the sofa bed. It is definately big enough. THe closet is huge, and the bathroom is big enough to allow two to get in there at once-we aren't long on modesty though ;-) There is plenty of cabin room when the sofa bed is up and includes another comfortable chair and foot rest, but best of all is the huge balcony (approximately 10 x 20ft) that held 3 lounge chairs, four regular chairs and a small table at which we ate breakfast on several days. It is like having a second room, and my son even wanted to sleep out there one night! Good luck on your choice, Laurie
justcruzin85374 Posted May 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2004 lmmn, you didn't mention what catagory for deck 7. MHO would be to avoid E 3 on deck 7 & E 2 on deck 8. If intrested I can email you a picture of this annoying overhang. We were very dissapointed on the Serende's sister the Brilliance E 2 on deck 8. Good luck. *** Soveriegn 92 E. DrivesLikeMario Posted May 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2004 We've had a JS with two kids on the Radiance (sister to the Serenade), but I'll never do that again! The 'bed' for the kids was very narrow and right on the floor. It was similar to a footon but with a hard board underneath. The twin-sized sheets never fit - one of the kids would always end up not covered - so the cabin steward turned the sheets the opposite way. This caused a problem with the sheets not coming up to their necks. Other than that, the cabin itself was nice (very aft corner cabin). I really think the VERY BEST way to go with kids is to get two adjoining cabins. We did this on the AOS and it was WONDERFUL! It was so nice being able to close off their room at night and having two bathrooms. They were right next to us, so I always knew what they were doing. Across the hall, and it's more inconvenient to go out your door and into theirs. (I know we've had a similar set-up before). We've also done the GS suites for 4 and it's okay, but having one bathroom isn't that great. Also, we had to share the one TV. It's so much nicer having 2 TVs, (or 4 like on our last cruise!) Definitely try to get 2 adjoining cabins. If not, go with the arrangement you already have. Just don't forget the 2 cabin keys every time you step out the door. lmmn Posted May 30, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted May 30, 2004 Thank you for your responses. I'm going to look again at the different options. The balcony cabin I currently have booked is 7584. Would the cabins on the hump also be obstructed? Adjoining cabins does seem like the best way to go, just much more expensive to get two balcony cabins, especially if we have to upgrade because of the life boat obstruction. Please let me know if you have any other ideas. lmmn Posted May 30, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 30, 2004 natesfirewife ~ We are looking at July, 2005. justcruin85374 ~ I would love to see a photo, as I think we are going to have to stick with this cabin. I will not be upset if I know about it now. It's disappointing the lack of cabins to choose from over a year away. I would really appreciate you sending the photo.
