mmlpt Posted April 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2010 We will been in St. George for 1 day of our upcoming cruise. We have been there once before & saw all the historic sites close to the the dock. Would like to visit some of the areas that would be a farther walk (Fort St. Catherine & swimming @ Tabacco Bay or in St. Davids, St. David's Lighthouse. We would not do Scooters for the entire island because of safety concerns but would they be OK for just the East end? What about pedal bikes? or should we stick to buses? I'm notorious for advising against renting scooters.;) However, I have often thought that if I ever did, it would be for just what you want to do. Accidents can happen anywhere but there is much less traffic around St. George and it is less hurried.
EOS-User Posted April 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2010 There is no doubt that hiring a Scooter is the BEST way of seeing BDA - as long as you're a confident rider - and remember they drive on the 'wrong side of the road'! You can certainly use a scooter to get around the outskirts of St. George very easily; there's a loop road that will take you out of town, up & along to Gates Fort, then a nice shoreline ride to Fort St. Catherine, before heading round to Tobacco Bay and back over the hill to St. George... If you want to venture out of town, head out to the swing bridge, and turn left and follow the road around the airport; you can then branch off - either to visit St. David's & the Lighthouse (stay straight), or go right to Clearwater Beach Park right at the end of the runway; if they're landing that way; it's quite a sight - they'll come in nice & low! EOS-User Posted April 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2010 How bad is the traffic going to St. Davids or Clearwater Beach from St. George? Provided you leave it until after 'rush-hour' it really shouldn't be a problem... that is the 'quieter' end of the island...
mmlpt Posted April 8, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted April 8, 2010 Thanks! Now I have to covince the DH to rent scooters so we can cover more ground in 1 day. EOS-User who do you recommend we rent them from in St. George?

EOS-User who do you recommend we rent them from in St. George? There are 4 scooter hire outfits on the island; - Eve's Cycles - Oleander - Smatts - Wheels Just Google 'Bermuda Scooter Hire' and you'll get to them all... Oleander and Wheels are the biggest renters on the island; but all have a good reputation... It is fun - just go carefully & enjoy...
