Cagney's and kids - Embarcation Day

We will be staying on a suite on the Sky and were looking forwards to Lunch at Cagneys - but I had thought that the kids crew would be open. No so - they open at 8PM on embarcation day. So, we will have an 8 year old boy who will be pining for the pool while my wife and I would be looking forwards to an enjoyable lunch! (My wife has NO IDEA that we will be in a suite:)) What do you suppose the best options would be? Have food delivered to the suite after we have exhausted our son at the pool? Also, does anyone know what hours one could have lunch from Cagneys delivered to the suite? I guess that, in a nutshell, I am wondering how to spend our time from boarding up until the opening of kid's crew!

Thank you!

Ollie.

Tell him he can get to the pool if he finishes all his lunch!;)

Cagneys will only be open during normal lunch hours - till maybe 1:30. That leaves lots of time for pool and other activities after lunch.

And, since your cabin may not be ready, getting it delivered to the cabin might not work out anyways.

As to dinner later, yes you can get it delivered to your room, plus upcharge.

I agree with this answer. Since know one knows of the suite yet it would be a nice way to spring it.

It will probably be sprung at check-in.

And I would disagree with the premise of "finish your lunch and you can go to the pool" as a bribe to the kid. He is excited about the pool not lunch. This a tough call for the parents. If the cabin is ready that would be a great option, if not there is always lunch in Cagney's on a different day possibly.

Great feedback - thank you! I suspect that we will "head for the pool" after we get on board and let the day take its course. We were on a "suite" on Carnival last year, so even when wifey figures out at check in that we will be in a suite - I do not believe she will have an inkling of what lies in store on NCL and our aft suite with perks! (I think that on Carnival the suite amounted simply a larger room with no "perks" that I could discern).

NCL's suite perks are the best. Enjoy your cruise and don't sweat the small stuff.

They are not big on room service on embark day due to the many additional duties that need to be performed.

I say , go to Cagneys for a quick lunch , let your son have something fun to eat( I mean a plate of fries and some ice cream, its vacation time)Their NY strip for luch is excelent . Then off to the suite , pool , cocktails ;)

First of all, you and your wife are going to love the suite life on NCL. It doesn't even compare to Carnival suites. It will be a much different experience just in the way you actually feel you are treated.

Since Cagney's lunch is such a big part of the suite perk I think you have to have lunch there on embarkation day. It's one of those times, so rare, where you and your wife will be thinking ......"Wow, this is so nice and only suites get it??!!, OMG!" Let your wife experience that feeling right at embarkation. Don't waste that feeling spending that time sitting at the main pool, so crowded and crazy that first day. And your idea of room service, it's not a big deal, it's not GREAT like Cagneys's is great.

I completely understand life with an 8 year old. I know you will have to balance that issue.

Maybe a solution is to stay overnight the night before in a hotel with a pool. On the morning of the cruise, get up and going early enough so your ds has time to swim at the hotel an hour or two before you arrive at the ship. This way you've sort of got the swimming bug out of him for the time being.

Another thought is to prepare ds well for your plans. I think you could do that without ruining the suprise for your wife. Tell everyone long before you embark that you want to check in and then have lunch and that's the plan!

I go with the last person.

You will have all day to sit by the pool and deal with the masses. Take the first hour and just sit at Cagneys for a nice easy lunch. Then go spend hours and hours by the pool.

Here is my suggested schedule.

Noon or so - board via the VIP waiting room

12:30-1:30 - quiet lunch in Cagneys (bottle of wine in our case)

1:30 - rooms are probably ready, so go drop off things in the room

(alternate - staff escorts you to suite when you board and drop things off, then lunch)

2:00 - while many others are heading to cabins that are now ready, you head to the pool.

Lots of good suggestions from previous posters. I like the idea of setting the ground rules before you board, as in saying that once on board you'll have lunch and then he can go swimming. I would also vote for the Cagney's lunch. It's a great way to start the cruise.

Also, keep in mind that your luggage may not be in your room until later, so make sure to carry on a bathing suit, or wear it. Also, be aware that at some point there will be a life boat drill and he will have to get out of the pool for that.

Enjoy!

I think it would be super to be escorted to the suite beforehand - that would really set the tone as my wife truly deserves a splendid holiday. Then, off to leasurely Lunch in Cagney's it is!

I so appreciate the responses - thank you all! My only fear now is that we are going on the Epic in August - but not in a suite - we have an aft balcony instead!

Cheers,

Ollie :)

I say bring your 8 yr old to lunch with you at Cagneys .... its his cruise to. He will be so excited about the suite and you can fill him in during lunch about everything he will be getting with the suite. Especially the first day. Let him look at the map of decks and get himself excited planning his adventures.

Like someone else posted... don't sweat the small stuff. We have a suite on the Jewel on May 1st. We will be traveling with our 17 & 6 yr old. All going to Cagneys for lunch when we board. We are all so excited. My 6 yr old is already memorizing what is on each deck. She pretends our bathroom is an elevator and she goes up to deck 12 to the pool. Then she visits the doctor on deck 4, then she goes to deck 13 for the spinaker lounge. She is a crack up and this is her first cruise. :)

OP-

Don't know your travel plans, but lunch in Cagney's 1st day is the BEST! Really sets the tone.

Your wife will know you are in a suite at VIP check-in. Let her start to go in the regular line then take her elbow and say "no, this way honey!"

On our last cruise suite dining room was open until 2:30.

Have a fun cruise!

Too funny Donna! We will be flying from Houston to Miami the morning of the cruise. The flight gets in to Miami at 11:10 AM, so i figure we will hop in a cab and off to POM we shall go - with a brief detour to pick up some champagne!

LOVE the "wrong line" approach!

Thanks,

Ollie:)

Don't suites get a bottle of bubbly waiting for you in the suite?

When I agreed for lunch first and eating it I thought there is a kid's meun of fun. Fries or hot dog would be great for him and no problem for you. Children do better if they are fed at normal times so when do you have lunch at home.
