No parking Port of NO

We are on the Conquest May 15th and yesterday I contacted Robert Jumonville, Manager of Cruise Operations at the port and he gave me the following information. Construction will not be completed by May. We have remote parking lots with complimentary shuttles to the terminals. The Conquest uses the lot at the corner of Tchoupitoulas St. and Melpomene St. Follow the directions on our website http://www.portno.com to the terminals, and when you exit the freeway at the bottom of the downramp turn right onto Annunciation St., go two blocks and turn left on Melpomeme St. The parking lot is on the left. They will check your bags in the parking lot and put you on the shuttle to the terminal. Parking is $12.00 per day.

In a follow up to my earlier post. I wondered if anyone knows about the parking area that the Conquest is using, like is it covered or fenced in. I've read a lot about the Fulton St Garage and I assume it is not the same one that the Carnivel is using.

Barb, I know the general vicinity RJ's talking about, but didn't realize the port authority was using that parking lot. The location looks to be about 6-8 blocks further from the terminal than FSG, but I have no info on it.

I've had no problem w/FSG, but maybe this other lot would be handling less people, making it easier to get to and from the port - since this is the first time I've heard about it.

Hey,

I noticed the posts. I just wanted to mention another parking facility, Machu Picchu Travel, you can book with them on http://www.machupicchutours.com/Cruise%20ship%20transportation%20and%20parking.htm

They only cost $12.00 a day with the last day free, its both sheltered and secure. :D

Make sure you arrive there after 11:30AM when you go to the cruise, there are huge traffic jams near the cruise ship terminal. The terminal is not built for all the traffic it gets and the police and taxis slow down all the lanes.

This is an open air , fenced parking lot at the foot of the Tchoupitoulas down-ramp. Last time I was there for a show at the Convention Center it was rather muddy. I would hope that considering the area it is in that they would provide 24 hour security. I would use the Fulton Street facility.

Is there a parking area that would be within walking distance from the cruise ship terminal? We were thinking about doing the self-assist at the end of the cruise. Also, for anyone living in NO, if you had to choose a lot to park in - which would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Well, I don't live in N.O., but it's my hometown, and I'm there at least three times a month. I've cruised several times out of N.O. I would definitely suggest Fulton St. Garage. I have parked there several times when the old port authority lot was still open, but full.

There's a complimentary shuttle, several in fact, to and from the terminal. Cost of parking is $12 per day, same as the other lots. At one time, you didn't pay until leaving; however, on my most recent cruise (Nov.), payment was due in advance.

My reasons: It's convenient to use the shuttle service. Parking is in a covered, tiered garage. It's very easy to exit the garage and get back onto the interstate.

I have walked from Fulton Street garage. It is indoor parking and also has shuttle busses. As much as I overpack, I might reconsider the walknig if cruising in the middle of summer.

They are all within "walking" distance. If too much luggage, you can drop luggage/passengers off and then park and the reverse is also true. Some can stay with the luggage at the curb while someone picks up the vehicle.

The closest lot to the ship depends on which terminal the ship is using.

I spent the first several decades of my life in New Orleans and wouldn't park at any of them. I'd take a taxi to the ship.

Cruise before last, I paid w/debit card. Last cruise, I paid cash. I don't really recall seeing a sign that said one or the other, sorry. (I know when the port authority lot was still open, it was always cash up front.) Maybe somebody can answer better for you.:)

I believe you can use a credit card at the Fulton St. garage. I think it is affiliated with the Harrahs casino. There are some atm machines close by if needed, but I don't think the credit card will be a problem.
