Restaurants near Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal

Recommended Posts

I am interested in learning about recommended restaurants near the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel. If you have a favorite, please share its name and why you like it.

Anyone try The Beaver Club within the hotel? If so, your opinion, please.

Thanks for the information!

The Beaver Club is really an experience. http://www.beaverclub.ca/ Food tends to traditional (versus esoteric), bordering on heavy, Canadian/Québécois inspired cuisine. The service is old school and impeccable -- I've been staying at that hotel on business since 2000, and the servers at the resto haven't changed. I love the veal there.

The coffee service is quite cool. They bring a balance siphon / vacuum carafe to the table and the coffee is brewed in front of you.

Even if you dine elsewhere, be sure to come back for a glass of wine (or one of their killer martinis), dessert, and coffee.

Scott.

Edited to add:

Other picks I like:

Le Piment Rouge -- upscale Chinese http://www.lepimentrouge.com/

Europea -- great little place set in a Victorian manse http://www.europea.ca/

Restaurant Holder -- fun, but loud restaurant / bar http://www.restaurantholder.com/

In the immediate area....

Beaver Club. French traditional.

The Keg. A national Canadian chain. Nice meal, steakhouse.

V.argus. Steak and Seafood. There is probably a banker sitting in the bank looking to lend you money when you get the bill. (CC won't let me write the name properly for some reason.)

Trattoria Zia. Italian.

Restaurant Julien. French.

Santa Lucia. Italian.

Piment Rouge. Szechuan. (A lot of people like it. I hated their service. Rush, rush, rush.)

La Coupole. French.

Baton Rouge. Chain. Ribs & Hamburgers. Reminds me of the American chain Houston's.

La Queue du Cheval. Steakhouse. Look above at V.argus and imagine the bill being doubled.

Dunns. Smoked Meat / Deli. Okay, not my favourite deli, but many people swear by Dunns.

A little further out....

Europea. French. Excellent restaurant, but pricey.

Toque. French. One of the most famous restaurants in the world... and one of the priciest. If you are going, spend the extra for the foie gras poele.

If I had to personally choose... and I wasn't paying... Europea or Toque. If I was paying... Keg or Baton Rouge.... but I almost never go for Italian food.

Many thanks to both of you for your suggestions. It gives me a good start to do some research on the restaurants. I do expect to try the Beaver Club but will have two more evenings for dinner before I embark the Maasdam.

Decisions, Decisions!

Bob
