disneypapa Posted April 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2010 as independent traveler, regular coach. What are the meal options? if any? Will not have opportunity to get anything in Seward as I will be finishing a 6 hr Kenai Fjord cruise excursion at 5:30 to catch a 6 PM train. In late May will there be sufficient day light for a lot of scenic viewing? Has anyone posted a mile by mile viewing guide for the train ride into Anchorage? If yes, where can I find a copy? Is the best viewing all along or just in certain stretches of the journey. Any and all help, suggestions, appreciated. Thanks.
mytime53 Posted April 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2010 by using this site http://www.sunrisesunset.com/usa/Alaska.asp you can find precise sunrise/sunset times, and twilight, for anywhere in the U.S., and many foreign cities. The sun sets in Anchorage at about 10 pm on May 1st, and 11 pm on May 25th. You will have plenty of daylight!
PennyAgain Posted April 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2010 Most of the way is fairly scenic but the stretch along Turnagain Arm (sit on the left side of the train) is the best. My favorite part of the world.
Budget Queen Posted April 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2010 You will walk right by a Subway, from the boat tour to the depot. That's what I have picked up most of the time. There is a dining car on the train. Your seats are assigned on the train. From Seward- stay in your seat if on the right side, if not, go to the dome car and sit on the right. You will be rotating, every 20 minutes IF people are waiting. I have never been on a train, where people were lined up. I just keep watching. After the glaciers and you can head to the left side. This will be the Arm view. The trip will be narrated.
