question for those with school aged kids

In Maryland we usually go back to school the week or two before Labor Day, way to early for me since they don't get out of school until June 15th.

In NYC, the public schools start the Monday after Labor Day and finish on the last Friday in June. Three breaks during the year - the five days between Christmas and New Years (plus 1 or 2 others, depending what day the holidays really are); a week in February that starts on President's Day; and, a week in the spring, which will always be the week of Passover.

 

Private schools tend to start a couple of days sooner and finish a couple of days sooner. Their spring break week will either be Easter week or Passover week, depending on the school.

In KY most schools, (Esp. private) are out right before Memorial Day. But we also start the middle of August which I don't like. I grew up in MI and liked not starting until after Labor Day.

Our kids get out June 24. So late! Same school district when I was growing up, we got out June 7-13, somewhere in there.

Upstate NY kids start back right after Labor Day until June 24.

Here in SE PA the kids get out the 2nd week of June.

 

This is subject to change if we get hammered in Feb and March with snow, however. So far only 1 snow day so no prolem yet.

San Diego City Schols begin the day after labor day and finish after the second week in June. For 2005, Start 9-3 and end June 17

My kids are scheduled to get out of school June 23rd. We were hoping to cruise the week after, but had to wait an additional week. Oh well, I can wait.

My wife works at the puplic school where we live in northern New York. I have the staff schedule in front of me and their last day is June 24.

Public schools in L.A. start right after Labor Day until 2nd or 3rd week of June. Southwest states start August and end sometime in May. I think that's why you can get good cruise deals out of Texas in August because the kids are back to school there.

DC/MD/VA schools aren't out til around the 18-20th of June. I don't have exact dates as my kids are in college now, but it's always been at least the second week of June.

Both of my children have the 20th of May as their last day of school. They attend public school in Tennessee. We begin our tour/cruise in Anchorage on Sunday the 22nd. We can't wait.

In Central California, the one school district get out the 3rd of June, my son's school distric gets out the 10th of June. We are leaving on our cruise the 7th of June.

In north Florida the kids started early August this year and will be out the Friday before Labor Day. We teachers will be finished with post planning June 1. I cruise June 5th--YEA!!!

My daughter's last day is also May 20th. Public school in GA.

In Westport, CT our last day of school will be June 22.

Some officials in the L.A. School District were talking about shifting the school year so it runs August thru May instead of Sept. thru June. Their reasons: more time before the state tests (testing is more important than learning, nowadays, I'm afraid) and hi school kids can start their summer jobs earlier or something like that. I'm sure I'm not the only person to write to them suggesting the impracticality of that (here in the San Fernando Valley part of LA, we get 100 plus degree days in August -- even in September!!!!). I said that kids would have to forego playground activity for more days than usual.

we finish up the last week of May. Just in time to catch that last week in May cruise before the price jumps a couple of hundred in some cases.

Our last day (unless they have to take finals) is May 24th. We leave the 26th to head to NYC for our May 29th cruise.

May 26 is the last day for my daughter. She attends a private school in Houston TX.
