***Islander, hotel question***

We are two couples on a Carib. Princess cruise. We'll be in St. Thomas on 10/30 and are thinking of disembarking the ship and staying overnight. Can you recommend a reasonably priced, clean hotel on the beach for just one night?

Others feel free to chime in!

Thanks!

What do you consider "reasonably priced" and what do you want to do at the beach? There are a few reasonably priced accommodations near the water, but they don't have a beach. They do. however, have good views, and easy access to other things.

A nice, clean hotel with great views and a pool will also do, thanks. We just want to lounge for the day and catch a plane home on the Sunday. We're looking to spend less than $200 per room. Thanks for any advice you can give to us.

Best Western Emerald Beach or Island Beachcomber (they're next door to each other) will probably be in your price range at that time of year. They share the same beach. The Best Western gets mixed reviews, and the Island Beachcomber looks like a 50's throwback, but for some reason it gets good reviews, and has some loyal customers. Both hotels are down the road from the airport so they'd be very convenient for you.

I am confused, are you leaving the ship mid -cruise?

Scott, it's an 8 night cruise and we're jumping ship (with cruiseline approval) 1 night early. Airfare from San Juan is $400 pp and airfare from St Thomas is $149. Even if we pay $250 for a hotel room (per couple) we're saving a lot of money.

Any suggestions on where to stay? We'd just like a clean hotel, with either a great pool, or close enough to go to a nice beach.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Beachfront hotels/resorts... Best Western Emerald, Island Beachcomber, Marriott Morningstar Resort, Bolongo Bay Resort, Ritz Carlton, Elysian Resort, Secret Harbor Resort, Sapphire Beach Resort, Wyndham Sugar Bay. I think that's all of them. You might use one of the booking sites and see if you can pull up some rates which typically will include some of the above listed properties. Or check their websites directly and compare rates. Some of course are regularly more than $200 a night, but you never know you might find some super great deal.
