lizneely Posted March 6, 2005 #476 Share Posted March 6, 2005 I just read a whole lot of the messages in this section, great info! I've only been on 1 cruise, a 3-night Carnival Mexico cruise. But we just signed up for the Sun Princess Alaska cruise in August. Our room is Dolphin 704, they only had 3 rooms left in our category so I'm worried that might not be a very good room, can anyone tell me if that room is really bad? I'm mostly concerned about the view out our window (no balcony) and any odors that might come into our room? We haven't picked our shore excursions yet, so any info on ones that you have enjoyed would be great; we like outdoors stuff and wildlife a lot. Back to reading more of the messages... susanv64 Posted March 6, 2005 #477 Share Posted March 6, 2005 Judygolfing...Thanks so much for the web link to the menus! Last September we were on the Sapphire for a quick one nighter from Seattle to Vancouver, BC. Looks like the menu for the Sail-Away dinner is the same. I had the Iced Pina Colada soup and it was fabulous!!! Can't wait to have it again in May on the Sun!

Liz Hi Lizneely, I haven't been on the Sun yet, but having looked at countless pictures I can give you my thoughts on your cabin. It looks like there are 6 of them on Dolphin deck and that they have smaller windows (possibly porthole-type) than the cabins just further aft from them. That would mean that it will be just fine, only a slightly smaller window than other "oceanview" cabins. Your location looks wonderful, though, very close to stairs/lifts. ccrain Posted March 6, 2005 #479 Share Posted March 6, 2005 Thanks for the menu link. While they are older, they are still pretty accurate. What I'm looking for is the order in which the menus occur on the Eastern itin. I know Sailaway is the first night and Landfall is the last night. I have the patters from the Eastern itin and can guess the Captain's welcome (1st formal night) and Captain's gala (2nd formal night), but beyond that I don't know. The reason this is important is that the patter's show the late shows starting at 9:30pm and I have scheduled Judy's B-Day dinner for the 1st full day at sea. We have traditional late seating and will have to skip some nights to see the shows we want to see. Not only that but I have this compulsive, obsessive disorder to try to plan for each and every contingency. All this planning, of course, goes out the window the very minute I lay my carry-on down on the bed of the cabin and I start to decompress, wind down and loosen up...but it does help pass the time waiting for the cruise to get here! Rare Host Anne Posted March 6, 2005 #480 Share Posted March 6, 2005 We were on the Sun Jan. 28 - Feb. 7 and I can't recall them beginning any of the "major" late shows earlier than 10:00 PM. Sometimes when they offered a second showing of a particular show (they do this for personal choice diners), sometimes they were earlier, but the regular late show for late traditional diners was always after 10:00 PM. They now show each "major" show/entertainer three times on two days. It's a little complicated but if you have late traditional, you should be fine to catch the late show each evening -- unless you have a REALLY slow waiter, like we did. :)

rucruizin Posted March 6, 2005 #484 Share Posted March 6, 2005 I haven't heard anything about rough seas lately, does that mean it has been smooth sailing?
ccrain Posted March 6, 2005 #485 Share Posted March 6, 2005 http://www.oceanweather.com/data/index.html Shows low sea states in the Caribbean. When seas were rough last month the entire eastern part of the Caribbean was blue to light blue (5-15 feet seas).
MaidMarian Posted March 6, 2005 #486 Share Posted March 6, 2005 Thirty-five cents a minute. Can you log onto the internet for a few minutes at the time (4 or 5) or does it have to be in blocks - like 15 or 30 minutes?
enymarsh Posted March 6, 2005 #487 Share Posted March 6, 2005 Can you log onto the internet for a few minutes at the time (4 or 5) or does it have to be in blocks - like 15 or 30 minutes? You can get on for just a few minutes if you like. There's a count-down in the lower right corner to let you know how much you've spent. You swipe your cruise card to get online so that they can charge per minute.
Rare Host Anne Posted March 7, 2005 #488 Share Posted March 7, 2005 Jack ~ no review yet. See, they treat me just like any other member -- no special treatment here ;) . I've dropped Laura a line asking about it but I haven't heard back yet. Don't know if the review process of the reviews is still the same but it used to be that they were all read before being posted so sometimes there was a backlog. You were there so you know what it was like :D I can email it to you when I get home from Chicago on Tuesday night if you just "have" to read it. And if that's the case, you and Louise need to get out more (just teasing). Off to dinner....how I wish it were on a ship!

cruiserforlife Posted March 7, 2005 Author #491 Share Posted March 7, 2005 Morning all, Once again, please be sure to remember if there is one member of your party that is Elite status and the other(s) are not,use that card to access the internet.I made this mistake early on and had to have them reverse the charges.Luckily,my wife is Elite and I was able to have the $385 'net services that I racked up waived. Anne's review,or as I call it..."Live from the Sun,the way it was!" is a must-read and we have kept ours along with the rest of our cruise material so that we can re-live our cruise whenever we want. For those who haven't already read it,I suggest taking a weekend soon and doing so,it's a great re-cap and makes me feel like I'm still sailing when I read it. Liz You should have a great room there. We were in room D605 and had an obstructed view. When the tender that hanging in our window was down, we had a beautiful view. You won't have the obstructed view and your room is very close to the elevator/stairs. I loved being on the Dolphin level because we were just steps away from the casino, and the pizzaria. One level down from your room is the promonade deck which is nice too. All the main events take place on that level too. All in all I think your room should be great. Mr Miserable Posted March 8, 2005 #494 Share Posted March 8, 2005 Is a thong acceptable around the pool? I only ask because Mrs M is a little nervous about me wearing it again on our next cruise. Is anybody aboard the Sun at the moment that can advise me on the styles/colours that are in vogue at the moment?
LMHSRN Posted March 8, 2005 #495 Share Posted March 8, 2005 Please be sure to let us know when you are sailing. I just might have to rearrange my cruise to see this! If you wear your thong on formal night(day), be sure it has the rhinestones or what ever will make it formal. Remember, please let us know which cruise you will be on. Rehabber Posted March 8, 2005 #497 Share Posted March 8, 2005 Hi, Thanks for the feedback on The Sun. My wife & I are going on our second Carribean criuse during April, ( first Princess ) we couldn't resist the deal. Plus it is my birthday and our anniversary. One stop we have is Grenada, where we will visit a falls and swim. We want to bring back some spice, is there any problem with this? Also, how long is the transfer to FLL after leaving the ship, we have a 10:45 flight. Thanks, any other tips on what to order for dinner ?

Come on over and check out the Roll Call board for this cruise. There's a great group of people on this cruise and we're looking to get together and meet onboard. Can't answer your question about Grenada since this is also our first time in some of these ports.

mtjlr Posted March 8, 2005 #500 Share Posted March 8, 2005 Rehabber - We have brought back spices and vanilla several times from Grenada. This will be no problem for you. What falls will you be going to? We hiked to Seven Sister Falls last year through the rain forest. It was well worth the hike when we made it there. Have a good trip. You should be able to make your 10:45 flight. It is only about 10-15 minutes from the port to the airport. With this early flight, you will probably be one of the first off the ship and cabs are plentiful to take you to the airport. Have a great cruise.
