Snorkel Hire

Hi All,

Does anyone have any idea how much snorkel hire is (approx.) ?

We are sailing Eastern Caribbean and are considering bringing our own.

Does Princess hire gear or do you usually pick it up at the local beach ?

Thanks,

jEss

Hi Jess!

I have only taken organized tours so the equipment has been furnished as part of the tour cost. I do not think Princess offers any gear for hire. Based on my experience, I can offer a few suggestions, however.

Since I require a pretty major vision correction, I invested in a good mask with corrective lenses. They are interchangeable so if I ever have laser surgery (and get 20-20!) I can substitute the plain glass lenses and not have to buy another. Depending on the snorkel tour operator, they might have some of these masks available for use or hire, but I never count on it.

I also prefer my own snorkel - just a preference. I use their fins and vest (required for safety) since they are heavier and bulkier to pack.

Have a great cruise!

Grand Princess daily news letter, Princess Patters, offers weekly snorkel gear rental for $15. There are also on board snorkel lessons.

HI!

I don't think lessons or equipment rental were offered on the Coral Princess for the Panama Canal itinerary. I think there might have been "Discover Scuba" dives but no fromal certification. I know Princess has some scuba certification courses during selected 7-day Caribbean itineraries. Perhaps the snorkel opportunities are different during those trips as well.

Snorkel gear used to be available for rent by the week on Caribbean cruises. It is not usually available on Panama Canal. .

We've rented it on 7 day Caribbean cruises for convenience. We usually do Caribbean excursions on our own, just taking a taxi to the beaches. If you are taking a Princess run excursion, your equipment rental is included in the cost of the excursion.

When you rent from Princess on board you get mask, snorkel, fins, vest, and gear bag. We usually bring our own snorkel, but rent the whole package.

I discovered on our Panama Canal cruise that snorkel gear is only available when the dive crew is on board. The hours are also few and far between when the dive crew is on board. Other than calling Princess, the best way to pre-guess if the gear will be available is if dive lessons are being offered on your cruise. If not, chances are there will be no dive crew on board.
