Silver Spirit Smoking Policy

My wife and I just finished LA to FL. The smoking policy is more European than American (as we are). Smoking is allowed in cabins, on the pool deck port side, one half of the Panorama Lounge and the Casino which is adjaceant to the Casino. Our cabin had no residual smoke effects although I would be worried about that as the Spirit has more voyages under its hull, but our balcony was unusable at times due to upwind cigar smoke. We were on deck 9 and the hallway was generally rancid with cigar and cigarette odor and the Panorama lounge was unbearable when smoking was permitted due to poor ventilation. The pool deck was generally unpleasant for lunch (no great loss as the food served there was lousy, surprisingly, since the food otherwise was the best of the Silversea line IMHO).

This is scary. Smoking on ships should be outlawed. Your experience on the balcony was the same as we had on the Holland America recently. I have had cancer once and was told to avoid second-hand smoke. If people NEED to smoke let them do it in their cabin and not impose it on everyone around them.

We leave next January on a Spirit cruise which I was eagerly looking forward to. Now, I am wondering if it will be as enjoyable as I thought. Not that it will do any good, but I am going to write to the execs who own Spirit and let them know how disappointed I am to hear stories like yours. This trip is costing a bundle. I don't want it ruined by a bunch of folks who will "blow it in your face". I may just cancel my trip. Thanks for putting me wise.

It looks like you just took the cruise we will be on. Is there something you can tell me positive about this cruise? I know smoking is a big problem but otherwise how did you enjoy this ship and this cruise? Thanks.

Well that certainly would put an end to using the balcony for all of us. Wonder if we would have been better off switching to the Vista cabin? I thought cigar smoking was confined to a designated cigar lounge. We've already made final payment, so we're all ( eight couples ) apprehensive about how awful the "rancid" odor will be by the time we board.

This is why it is so important to read a ship's policy whether it is about smoking or dress code. SS does have a liberal smoking policy so perhaps this cruise line is not for you. Regent has a restrictive policy and Oceania is completely non-smoking. Perhaps you would fare better on either of thes 2 lines.:)

Oceania does not permit smoking in suites and only in 2 other small areas.

Thank you for the correction. :) I was under the impression that Oceania is completely non-smoking. But then, I have never looked at their policies since we prefer an all-inclusive.
