TxnAquarian Posted April 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2010 We will be in Palma for the the day on an upcoming NCL cruise. We were thinking about going to Playa de Palma. Is this a public access beach or do you need to be a guest at a hotel to access it? Also, how long a cab ride is it from the cruise ship pier to the beach? Some people on here have suggested taking a bus, but I'm not interested in doing that. Are taxis readily available at the pier? Thanks! tom_uk Posted April 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2010 Beaches on Mallorca generally seem to be unrestricted. As for taxis, the problem you might have is that there could be a lot of people waiting for taxis. But Palma is a large city, so there should be a steady stream of them arriving. itsjb1 Posted April 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2010 Any idea of the cost of a taxi from the port to the beach?
tom_uk Posted April 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2010 Any idea of the cost of a taxi from the port to the beach? Not really, except that it might be quite a lot. That particular beach is a number of kilometers to the east of Palma, whereas the cruise port is actually on the west side of Palma. Also, there are many beaches around Palma bay. Do some research on these beaches/resorts on the west side of Palma: Illetes, Portals Nous, Palma Nova. The last of these is no further than Playa de Palma, and the others are closer. Getting to any of these will avoid the drag through, or around, the main part of Palma. Also, if you do decide to stick with Playa de Palma, the actual resorts are Can Pastilla at the western end and S'Arenal at the eastern end. The taxi will probably prefer to be asked to go to one or the other of these. You might want to do some Googling on both of these resorts.
tom_uk Posted April 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2010 One more point: the principal tourists on Mallorca are Germans and Brits. In general, the eastern half of Palma Bay is predominantly German, and the western half is predominantly where the Brits go. Not 100% by any means, but in general. It's quite likely that in the eastern half, the most commonly-spoken languages will be Spanish & German while in the western half, they'll be Spanish and English. lilirishstar Posted June 1, 2010 #7 Share Posted June 1, 2010 We also will be in Palma for the the last day of a July NCL cruise. We were thinking about going to Illetas beach. How long and how much is a cab ride from the cruise ship pier to the beach? We are not interested in taking a bus. Thanks!
