Overland shore excursions from Milford Sound

We want to know if anyone left the ship at Milford sound to do overland 1 or 2 night trips. Did you go on your own or with Princess? What was it like to stay on board instead? Do you miss out a lot on scenic cruising if you leave the ship? It seems like the overland sites are wonderful as well.Thank you in advance!!
