Buying Wine Near Southampton Port

We will be taking a taxi from Gatwick to Southampton. Our ship sails out of berth 101. Does anyone know of a place to purchase wine near the port or on the way to the port from Gatwick?

The cruise terminal itself just has a bar.

 

You are starting from the City Center Cruise Terminal.

 

I would say there is not too much around. So maybe the ASDA (UK subsidiary of Wal-Mart) opposite of the bus station.

Nearest options to City Cruise Terminal (berth 101) are about 1/2 mile - the Asda mentioned by Heinbloed, Marks & Spencer in West Quay Shopping Centre, and Majestic Wines opposite the rail station (but this one only sells by the case). Walkable in 10-15 mins if you have the time to go there after registering/depositing your luggage.

 

Otherwise, because of your luggage, you'd need to get your driver to stop at a store en route:

 

Tesco Superstore, Easton Lane, Winchester SO23 7RS. Exit the M3 motorway at Junct 9, at the top of the ramp take the third exit & in 50 yards take the first exit into the store's carpark. Return to the motorway same way. Deviation from your route is no more than 1/2 mile in total, and it's your simplest option.

 

Asda Superstore, Portland Terrace, Southampton SO12 7EG. This is the one mentioned by Heinbloed, but by taxi its easiest to approach the front of the store, in Portland Terrace, which looks nothing like Heinbloed's photo.

 

Marks & Spencer is in the large West Quay shopping mall, so not ideal if you have a taxi waiting.

Depending on how much wine you are taking on board (I believe Celebrity allow 2 bottles per cabin) and how much of a wine connoisseur you are there is always the easiest option (but prob probably a few pennies more) of buying your bottles at the airport on arrival and then just sitting back in the taxi to Southhampton and relaxing. ;)

There is a Marks and Spencer's Food shop in both the North and South Terminals which are open 24hrs.

I am not sure if they sell alcohol 24hrs but most of the day/evening you would be able to purchase it.

Or failing that, buy it on your way in on the plane/duty free?
