lsu2fan Posted May 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2010 For those of you who might be living in or near Nola.... what is the prediction for sailings from NOLA in the next few weeks ? This past Saturday my DW and I took the ferry across the Mississippi just south of New Orleans in Chalmette. We saw a good number of tankers and tugboats traveling in both directions. Carnival announced about an hour ago that "its ships sailing in the vicinity of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico are operating normally and with no interruption to their cruise itineraries. Carnival said that the 2,758-passenger Carnival Triumph arrived in New Orleans Saturday morning and departed again that afternoon....So far, Carnival said its ships have been able to maneuver around the spill." Local port authorities report that "there is no presence of oil in the routes leading up to Southwest Pass, the channel that all cruise and cargo ships take to enter the Mississippi River from the Gulf, and into New Orleans." Keep us in your prayers. Jorge
c0reyann Posted May 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2010 I have friends down there and she said this weekend they could already smell the oil in the air. Not sure what will happen but I'd keep my eye out.
tallyho8 Posted May 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2010 I live on the River Road right outside New Orleans and I can't smell any oil. I think the spill will affect Mobile worse than New Orleans.
spleenstomper Posted May 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2010 My friends did smell that smell last week and are now wondering if the smell was the chemical dispersants and not the oil...
UPCrawfish Posted May 5, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 5, 2010 There are so many chemical plants along the river from south of NOLA to Baton Rouge, it's hard to "not" smelll something petroleum related.

tallyho8 Posted May 7, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2010 Mule poop. The mules wear diapers now but there are a lot of other unsanitary things in the French Quarter that may stink. ;)
jordanaire Posted May 7, 2010 #11 Share Posted May 7, 2010 Mule poop. Mule poop! I love that comeback! Has the oil spill affected Carnival's departures from NO yet? We're sure hoping that cap that they are placing on the well today actually works! Our fingers are crossed! Bill
