St. Thomas Taxi's - Any "Regular" Ones Available

We are wanting to head to Magen's Bay for the day when we are in St. Thomas, but we don't want to take one of the open air taxi's (safari bus). Does anyone know if they have regular car or van taxi's that would be at the dock? We are hoping to use our backless boosters....

Thanks!

There are very few regular taxis. You might want to ask one of the drivers of the safari taxis where you can find the regular ones. I know I've taken a regular van to the town, so they are available.

They're there, but they all fight (verbally) with each other over who gets what fare. And, most of them will direct you to the more lucrative vans or open-air Safari vans, because they get a cut. You won't be able to understand them while they're squabbling, because they speak in the local patois. The St. Thomas taxi/van drivers are not only obnoxious, but will overcharge. There's also an admission fee to Megan's Bay, and you will have to pay your driver upfront. I gave up on St. Thomas taxi drivers years ago. Some will make a stop at some "bar" along the way and will offer you a "discount" on a fruity rum drink. (Usually, cousin or friend or girlfriend runs the bar). St. Thomas taxi drivers are well aware of cruisers who have never been there before. Establish a flat one-way rate before you even get in a taxi. You can ask them to meet you at Megan's Bay when you want to return, but chances are they won't be there. Other taxis will be there, but will inflate the one-way drive back to the ship because they KNOW you have to be there. It's really sad that a US territory and most visited cruise port allows this!!
