guppy35 Posted May 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Last summer we sailed at B1 and loved the veranda. What are the advantages of moving up to concierge? Will we like Regatta as well as Insignia? We are booking the New England cruise. Thanks to all of you for your help.
hondorner Posted May 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Last summer we sailed at B1 and loved the veranda. What are the advantages of moving up to concierge? Will we like Regatta as well as Insignia? We are booking the New England cruise. Thanks to all of you for your help. First, Insignia and Regatta (and Nautica too, for that matter) are virtually identical. Unless you have a very sharp eye for minor details, you won't be able to tell them apart (one has a sofa in the laundry room, for example, while another has chairs). It's the same with the cabins -- the category A cabins (concierge) are nearly identical to the category B cabins. There is a small refrigerator in the A cabins, built into the desk/dressing table; this cuts down the storage by that amount. The refrigerator is the primary benefit of concierge class, along with a welcome bottle of champagne (actually sparkling wine), cashmere lap robes for use in the cabins (you don't get to keep them), a nice, zippered tote bag (you do get to keep it), complimentary pressing of two garments each, some other minor things like toiletries, and the other biggie, a doubling of the number of guaranteed reservations in the specialty dining rooms. There is no actual "concierge" other than the one who serves all guests; the term has to do with the level of amenities, not with any personnel. You'll have to decide for yourself whether it's worth any increased cost.
guppy35 Posted May 10, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Thank you. It might be worth it just for cold diet pepsi.
hondorner Posted May 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2010 That's why we mostly took a concierge cabin; I would bring my own Diet Pepsi aboard and always have a cold one waiting. Your stewardess will remove all the mini-bar stuff to give you room. BUT -- things have changed. They now provide "free" (it's included in the price) sodas and bottled waters. It's still handy to have a fridge in order to have a cold soda waiting in the morning, but the ship is generally a Coca Cola products ship, and that means Diet Coke (ugh) rather than Diet Pepsi. It's really hard to justify buying and bringing your own when their's is free.... Also, Marina will have a fridge in every cabin, so I no longer have to pay for concierge just to keep the soda cold. They will add a special concierge lounge and some other perks, but for my first three cruises on Marina, I'm booked in a category B4 cabin -- not concierge. Now, if I could just persuade them to stock Diet Pepsi (caffeine free preferred), life would be Perfect!
JimandStan Posted May 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Now, if I could just persuade them to stock Diet Pepsi (caffeine free preferred), life would be Perfect! NOW you've done it! There go the dancing girls, caviar buffet, and cabin to dining room sedan chairs!

hondorner Posted May 11, 2010 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Thanks Paul- Just trying to provide some light hearted diversion from the ongoing Dryer debacle. Are they bored, or praying that the dryers will be fixed?
TKS Posted May 11, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Are they bored, or praying that the dryers will be fixed? I'm especially interested that the men are doing the laundry on the cruise in that photo. I really like the idea! How wonderful they are to relieve their wives of any such duty on vacation!:):)
hulamoon Posted May 17, 2010 #11 Share Posted May 17, 2010 Wait a minute Jimand Stan, I thought you didn't want distracting naked girls in the sauna!:p But then again, the picture doesn't look coed. I am getting used to the Oceania board. There is not very much complaining or ships being in the dog house. In other words I am getting more work done. Don, I love your statement, "For my first 3 Marina cruises I am booked in a B4." :) Very sweet....
Aruba Posted May 17, 2010 #12 Share Posted May 17, 2010 WHERE do you find these pictures?! They are hysterical.
JimandStan Posted May 17, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 17, 2010 You can Google anything. The B&W picture is actually from an image search for "Ships Laundry" The captions are Jims' addition ;)
Aruba Posted May 21, 2010 #14 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Then I'll add this: the new "David" for the 21st century. It should be titled "Disembarkation Day".
