Roatanfans Posted May 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Anyone been to the opera in Rome? Just wondering how dressed up we need to be so we pack the right clothes if we get tickets. Thanks!
ab0si Posted May 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2010 I am assuming Teatro Dell’Opera. Unless you are going on opening night, you will see everything from tuxes to khakis -- there wont be many of the latter if it's a gala. <grin> If you are in the side boxes, there will be more of the latter. If I am in a "normal" seat, I wear an open shirt and sports jacket over dress slacks but you can easily go up or down scale without sticking out. I assume you will be in a box (most seats are). If so, unless they have changed things -- it's been several years since I've been there -- it is open seating within the box. This makes it worthwhile to get there a bit early to try to grab one of the better seats in your assigned box. If you are attending the open air summer season at Terme di Caracalla, the dress will be quite casual .. I would not feel the need for a jacket. Roatanfans Posted May 12, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Thank you so much- I was worried that it was going to be tuxedos and long dresses and I didn't really want to pack those if I didn't have to!
ab0si Posted May 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2010 Happy to help. Going to see Madame Butterfly or Manon? I've never seen the later. - or are you going to Aida in the open air?
Roatanfans Posted May 15, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted May 15, 2010 Madame Butterfly- we are staying across the street from the theatre so we thought it would be a nice evening for us!
