norwegian excursions full, on waiting list

I have been trying to book excursion for ventura in June and all the

trips we wanted to do are full and so we are on the list, so could end up doing nothing (very annoyed did not know you had to book the day you get brochure, we are new to cruising). Does anyone know if there is any chance of getting on an excursion if you are on a waiting list?

You should look elsewhere on this site -- look for the section called "roll calls" and see if there are others going on your same cruise. Many folks don't book ship-sponsored excursions, but instead go off the ship and do excursions on their own. Often these are cheaper anyway, and more personalized (as there are fewer people in each group.)

 

And get busy researching the ports -- you may well find many interesting things to do at each port that don't require an "excursion", but which you can just go to on your own.

 

Just be sure you know when you need to be back to the ship -- usually at least a half-hour before it is to set sail -- and get back in plenty of time to board.

Why would you end up doing nothing? You're not obliged to go on an excursion, many of us give most ship's excursions a wide berth because they're so expensive. If you decide what you would like to see beforehand, you can look online for local tour companies or just use taxis or public transport on the day. Go for it!

Also go to the Ports of Call section of this site and see what there is to do at each stop. You can also see what the ship is offering in each port, that will give you an idea of the highlights. Then use google to find your own tour.

 

We never take ship's excursion. Usually you can do it yourself at a much lower cost. Tripadvisor.com is an invaluable source of information, as are guide books; if you don't want to buy them, you can find them at the library.

 

On a lot of ship excursions you pay a lot of money to sit on a bus for hours. Doing it yourself is a lot more fun and less expensive. But, you have to be willing to do some research.
