Explorer of the Seas and Bermuda

Just a quick note about Explorer of the Seas and scooter travel. In a nutshell, IT WAS GREAT. OK, out of the shell. Cape Liberty is very suited for scooter and wheelchair travelers. You pull up to the terminal and go in via a shallow ramp. The special needs line is very spacious. The ONLY downfall is no privacy screen if they want to do more than a pat down. Through check-in and into the holding area. When they call your boarding number you are escorted to the busses for the very short ride to the ship. All the busses have fold down ramps and the drivers and staff are all very well versed in there use. And they are not afraid to use them either. At the ship you are faced with a shallow gangway and escorted by a crew member until you are fully on board.

We had cabin 9561 which was an inside for 3. We would normally get a balcony but our son was with us. The room was very spacious and well laid out. The only problem I saw was the h/c closet rod. Not only was the rod gone (not an issue for us) but you could not pull it all they way down as the closet door would block its travel. Facilities throughout the ship were exceptional and my wife had no problem at all. I also noticed a bunch of folks in wheelchairs, companion and power, as well as other mobility devices having no difficulties.

Bermuda seemed to be right on the ball with nice sidewalks and curb cutouts. Ramps were evident in the buildings we visited. We didn't do any Bermudian transportation but I bet they are ok as well.

The crew was always willing to assist any way they could.

We were so impressed we are in serious discussions for another Explorer of the Seas cruise again.
