Can someone tell me the do's and don't's about the proper dress codes for women in Izmir/Istanbul? I'm looking forward to my cruise and seeing the Blue Mosque etc, but want to be sure I'm not turned away because of what I'm wearing. Anyone have any advice, please send it on. Thanks.

Don't wear short shorts, sleeveless shirts, tank tops, etc. and you'll be fine. Turkey isn't as fussy as many Islamic nations but if you want to cover your hair with a scarf or veil that's great but not at all necessary. I suppose "good taste" would be the best way to suggest it. Respect them and they'll respect you.

I agree with Capricruiser. Another possibility is if you do want to wear a sleeveless top because of the heat, you can take a thin silk (or other material) large scarf/shawl with you and drape that around your shoulders when in mosques - that is what i did when I visted istanbul.

:p hi everybody, i am turkish who is living in İzmir. dont worry about the cloths. only as the others say take scarf for mosques as a respect. if you are coming to istanbul ramadan time, no problem cuz you are tourist. for izmir, be sure you can eat or drink whenever you want :)
