ATVO 72 hour pass and trip in from aiport

We will be arriving in July, staying overnight at Hotel Olympia near Piazzale Roma.

We want to take the ATVO bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma with the luggage compartment under the bus. Since we will be in Venice for several days before our cruise starts, we will be purchasing the 72 hr ATVO pass. Will this pass cover the trip from the airport as well, or do we need to purchase a ticket from the airport separately?

Where would you use ATVO services other than to go back and forth to the airport? They are not the same company as the vaporettos, but it's easy to get confused because the names are similar.

ATVO runs the nice airport buses with luggage areas underneath, which go directly from the airport to Piazzale Roma with no stops.

The other lines they run are outside of Venice, throughout the Veneto area, as well as longer routes to Bergamo, Milan, etc.

ACTV, on the other hand, is the company that runs the local buses and the vaporettos. A multi-day pass for this service is a good idea, as they can save you a great deal of money.

It is possible to use an ACTV pass to get in from the airport, on a local bus that makes several stops along the way, and which does not have space for luggage (you just cram in along with everyone else). This is bus line #5. http://www.actv.it/pdf/piante_automobilistico/5-UM.pdf

To me, that's a false savings. For only 3 Euro, you can take the much more comfortable ATVO bus, then begin using your ACTV pass once in Venice proper.

So, to summarize, get a multi-day ACTV pass, but only point-to-point ATVO tickets.

Thanks Euro Cruiser.

Am I correct in understanding that the 72 hour pass that I can get with Venice Connect (for 28.05E), is the multi-day ACTV pass.

Who operates the 6/bus from Piazzale Roma to the cruise ships? Is that ACTV, since it is a local bus?

They are for ACTV, but I noticed that they only seem to cover buses to Mestre and on Lido:

72H Public Transport Ticket

If you can enjoy the magic of Venice for three days, this is the ideal ticket for you.

You can get your ticket at any Venice Connected Point and it is valid for 72 hours from the time you get it.

This ticket can be used on the boat network and on Mestre and Lido buses.

So you may not be able to use it from the airport in any case.
