Dog Sledding in Alaska

Can someone give me feedback on the glacier & dog sledding adventures in Skagway or Juneau? How much time is actually spent in the dog camp and actually sledding. Is it a journey through the scenery or just a quick ride to show you what it feels like?

 

Any comments would be appreciated.

We did the dogsledding out of Skagway, booking directly with Temsco. The nicest scenery was the helicopter ride up to the dog camp - maybe about 20 minutes. The dog camp itself is in a very scenic location, although they do move around - ours had just been moved up higher due to the warm temperatures last summer. You then spend some time with the dogs and the trainers. The ride itself is basically a large circle, maybe a couple of miles total lasting 15 minutes or so. We did stop a couple of times to change places on the sled. Then we got a little more tour of the camp, before the helicopter ride back to town, which was much faster than going up. It was really a great time for our family.

I just booked this tour tonight through Celebrity. However, we will be touring from Juneau. Anyway, how many people are allowed on the sled & in the helicopter. We are a family of 3. It would be great if we could all ride together. TIA :)

Our helicopter held five people aside from the pilot. And if it's run the same way, 3 of your should be fine on one sled. We are a family of a four, so we all rode up in the same helicopter with the fifth passenger, then two of us were on one sled and three on the other. Have fun!:)

By the way, I may have underestimated the length of the ride - dh says it was definitely longer. I guess it was so much fun, the time just seemed too short!:D
