lucy1234 Posted May 31, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2010 We're in Juneau from 8am to 6pm. We already booked a whale watch tour with Orca, it is 9am to 12:30 pm. We plan back to ship for the lunch, and in the afternoon, go to other 2 places. I know that Mt. Roberts Tramway is close to the port, and plan to take the shuttle to the Glacier. Is this enough time? JAMS1 Posted May 31, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2010 Right after your whale watch go to the Mendenhall Glacier, spend the time you wish and end with the tram since its so close to port, just a 5 min walk. plan on taking the tram both ways. You have 5 hours after your whale watch, so depending on how much you like to hike, you 1 to 3hrs works for the glacier & 1 to 2hrs for the tramway easy you still have time for quick eats & shopping or the gardens Have a wonderful trip! lucy1234 Posted May 31, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted May 31, 2010 Can they drop us off at Glacier? Is there lunch available in the Glacier (vistor center)? If it is possible, it can save us time. We don't need to go back ship.
JAMS1 Posted May 31, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2010 Don't remember any food up at the glacier. Their might be. CC Folks do you remember food at the Glacier visitors center? Otherwise you might want to grab something in town before going up to the glacier
JAMS1 Posted May 31, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2010 There are lots of busses that run up to the glacier, and some folks have taken cabs. When we got off the ship there were lots of vendors with busses going up to the glacier, we just grabbed the most economical one. I think the city bus goes up to both Glacier & gardens Bet other CC folks have good answers for this one.

Plenty of time, but have Orca drop you off at Mendenhall Glacier after your whale watch tour. That will save you a lot of wasted time doubling back and forth since Mendenhall Glacier is out in the same direction as Auke Bay where you will be whale watching. Another suggestion: if you are off the ship around 8 in the morning when you first dock, look up and if the top of the mountain is clear, buy the tram ticket and ride up the tram for a quick look around. The Orca office is directly across from the base of the tram, so when you get off the tram, it takes less than a minute to walk over to the Orca office. The tram tickets are good all day long, so you can use them to go up again for a longer visit in the afternoon and have the benefit of taking photos with different lighting at the different times of day.
