msk1 Posted June 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2010 Has anyone done the ferry over to Hydra from Piraeus? Recommendations?? What was the best/worst? Would you recommend anything in particular?
numbersix Posted June 1, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2010 No, but we did Aegina once, pre-cruise, for tha day...loved it. It's closer (abot 30 mins by high-speed ferry), rented a car, and wandered...great beaches, great ancient temple, great abandoned hillside village, great cathedral, nice little town/port...Aegina town. love to cruz Posted June 1, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 1, 2010 Absolutely fell in love with Hydra a few years ago. We stayed in Athens for several days after a cruise & took the hydrofoil to Hydra. I hated going back to the hectic big city. There is only one vehicle on the entire island ( a lone water truck). Residents use donkeys to get their groceries up the hills to their home. The water is a gorgeous crystal clear blue, lovely restaurants & shops. But mainly it is a virtual treat for the eyes and very, very relaxing. This sounds like a great pre-cruise option for us!
