Britiscruizin Posted June 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Can anyone recommend a route for us to walk around Malaga that will take in most of the "worth seeing" sights? We don't mind walking but, as its going to be HOT we don't want anything too strenuous!!! Many thanks:confused:

Many thanks:confused: Official tourist site is good source of info http://www.malagaturismo.com/ (see What to See/Itineraries section). For visuals see http://cert2.ayto-malaga.es/malagarutas/loader.html Picasso museum is definitely worth it http://museopicassomalaga.org. Major monuments are: Alcazaba/Gibralfaro Castle/Cathedral/Roman Theatre
jku2 Posted June 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2010 We were in Malaga last May. I can't tell you the road names I can offer some advice. We took a taxi from the port to Gilbrafro. You go past the bullring and through a pretty residential area. We thought we could walk along the wall bakc to the Alcazaba but if you can we never found it. We followed the bus route 32 back down the way we came. It is all down hill but takes about a half hour. We then came to a very nice park with gardens. The Alcazaba was right above the park. From there we went a few blocks at most to the cathedral. If you don't want to take a taxi or bus to Gilbrafro I wouldn't suggest going. The walk from the ship while long is doable to the other places. There are horse drawn carriages outside of the Alcazba. Hope this helps he City Center The Paseo del Parque is a popular meeting place and an oasis for the locals as this large avenue has its sides lined with gardens and tall trees which provide pleasant shades under the heated Andaluc?an sky. The city's famous cathedral, La Manquita whose style is the product of Renaissance, Baroque and neoclassical morphed together, stands overlooking the park from behind and is open for anyone who would like to cherish its beauty. Alcazaba About five minutes walk from the Cathedral is the 15th century Moorish fort called Alcazaba which straddles the hill that once sank to the shore line. Standing next to the fort is the 1st century Roman theater. Gibralfaro This Moorish castle stands on top of the hill that overlooks the city and it is a great observing place to get a beautiful panoramic view of the city, the bullring, the port and the beaches. There are also lovely gardens at the top of the hill to rest your weary feet as well as taking in the atmosphere and the scenery below.
edinburgher Posted June 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 4, 2010 In addition to any routes on the tourist office website above, (I could not easily access it) the offices also give out paper walking routes. There is a selection to choose from depending on your interests and energy. We picked ours up from the tourist office alongside the gardens close to the port.
