Set Free Posted June 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2010 OK - I'm a homeschooling mom and will be bringing my two homeschooled kids to Bermuda next week on the Veendam. So I was thinking of making some of that trip "school days" by doing some historical/science stuff while we're there. We'll certainly visit the lighthouse and the fort but is there a good site that shares Bermuda's history and such in a format good for kids? I'm not looking for a ton but to find out a bit and to tie it into our history and science curriculum would be great! Thanks!
modelman Posted June 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2010 The sites come to mind that be useful. For science and history, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Hamilton Harbour would be great. http://www.buei.org/ Also a trip out to the Fantasy / Crystal Caves to dovetail with any discussions on geology, stalactites and stalagmites. http://www.caves.bm/pages%20folder/crystal.html And finally a trip out to the Maritime Museum at the Dockyards has great historical interest. http://www.bmm.bm/
32N64W Posted June 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Hi Setfree, Here's a little-known yet amazingly useful site about Bermuda. Apart from the tourist related stuff, there are dozens of links to explore. Keith did a great job on this, and hardly anybody knows about it! Maybe we should start a thread to promote it? Here's the link: http://www.bermuda-online.org/abcbda3.htm Have Fun!

LSP2005 Posted June 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2010 Do the Crystal Caves, Botanical Garden or Aquarium/Zoo qualify as "educational activities" for you? I think that children would enjoy those activities.
