euro cruiser Posted June 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2010 There will be special events going on around the city that day (a parade in the morning that begins at Piazza Signoria and goes to the Duomo, a mass at the Duomo, a medieval soccer game in Piazza San Croce in the late afternoon, and fireworks after dark) that will make getting around difficult, but most things will be open, except venues tied up in the celebrations. For example, the web site for Santa Croce (http://www.santacroce.firenze.it/english/informazioni/orari/) says that it is closed only during the historic soccer match (late in the afternoon usually). GSPLover Posted June 5, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2010 The fireworks that evening are absolutely spectacular. They went on for at least an hour. It does get a bit crowded along the Arno river, especially near the Ponte Vecchio. We didn't find that other things were particularly crowded (stayed clear of the soccer stadium).
