cruisin07family Posted June 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2010 We're considering a cruise on the Carnival Pride and the listed stop in Nassau is 7am-1pm. That doesn't seem like much time to do much of anything. As expensive as some of the all-inclusive day passes are and with 5 in our family, I'm thinking we may stay on the ship. marym933 Posted June 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2010 Have you been to Nassau before? If you have, maybe a ship day would be good. If not, see the straw market and the other sites within walking distance of the ship. There is a great horse and buggy ride around downtown. The vendors in the market will open about 9 a.m. so no hurry to get off the ship. The up side is that it is cooler in the morning than later in the day. There is a pirate museum right off of Bay Street that I hear is great for kids (haven't been though).
Rare CruisinCrow Posted June 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2010 You didn't mention the ages of your children or their interests but here are a few suggestions: take a snorkeling tour go to Ardastra Gardens visit one of the forts go to the Pirate Museum spend a couple of hours at Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island (free beach) see the Atlantis aquarium

Kids will love it and there is a man dressed as a pirate and plays his role very well. Enjoy it.
family cruisers Posted June 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2010 Are you sure that Nassau has the short stop and not freeport? We've been on the Pride last fall and are going again this fall. Freeport stop is the 7-2 pm stop. If thats the case you'll have the time to visit our Lucaya area for Casino, Shopping and the beautiful Our Lucaya Beach resorts . All in the same area, shopping on one side of the street, Casino and Beach to the other. We love Freeport and only wish we had longer time here vs. Nassau. cruisin07family Posted June 17, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted June 17, 2010 Okay, so the kids aren't exactly kids, lol. ;) This is a graduation celebration family cruise. One son graduates HS and one son graduates college and the youngest son will be 15. The cruise we are considering is the 7/17 Pride which has a Nassau stop rather than Freeport. We're also still considering the 6/19 which is Freeport but I heard others report that Freeport is the armpit of the Bahamas and to definitely stay on the ship. The "kids" have no desire to see the Pirate museum and will probably be beached out by then. They are typical boys and really have little desire to shop so they will probably just sleep in that day. I should really just look for an excursion for myself and hubby, lol. Thanks for everyone's replies and suggestions so far. :)

There isn't much to do at the port. You take a shared cab (about 5 bucks each) to "Our Luycaya" where the beach passes, shopping casinos, and excursions are. Our Luycaya is very pleasant, not an "armpit" by any stretch.
