Passin Thru Posted November 3, 2010 #26 Share Posted November 3, 2010 Search for Sapphire Princess drydock. You'd be amazed at what can be accomplished in 14 days, Thats 336 hrs and they can repaint a ship and recarpet, change all the mattresses etc because they do the prefab in outside shops. sparty1 Posted November 3, 2010 #27 Share Posted November 3, 2010 Thanx for the list. I'm always looking for this info, but never know where to find it. Looks like we are traveling with you on our next cruise across the Atlantic? We get on in Athens though. See u at M&G? I know I'm always curious about when my favorite ships are going to be renovated, or just refreshed, (I love that International Cafe!), but the actual schedule does seem to move around a bit. I dug a current copy out of the Princess Answers database for easy reference. The schedule shows the ship, it's scheduled date for drydock or wetdock, and the dockyard location that's handling the refit. Having been on a cruise right before a scheduled drydock, where work was already being done on the ship in preparation, I also use the list to check my plans, and bear those inconveniences in mind if and when I book a cruise abutting a scheduled drydock. lopdx Posted November 3, 2010 #28 Share Posted November 3, 2010 Thanks for the info! Anyone know what kind of work will be done to the CB in nov 2011? Thanks, David Maybe they are going to change, mattresses, carpets and drapes, recover chairs, things like that. We were just on it last month and things looked good. I think the mattresses may be shot by next year.
MERLOTCHAMPAGNE Posted November 3, 2010 #29 Share Posted November 3, 2010 If this is correct, does anyone know what was done during this drydock?? Sun Princess April 16 - 29, 2010 Brisbane
canadiansnowbird Posted November 3, 2010 #30 Share Posted November 3, 2010 Hi: This post is very very informative and gives me food for thought!!! We are booked on the Grand March 28th for a 14 day Caribbean cruise. By the sound of it she goes immediately to Freeport when we get off the ship in Ft. Lauderdale. Please tell me what we are in for. I'm thinking half staff, construction starting, a few of the bars closed etc. etc. Would you cancel? Snowbird
StLouisCruisers Posted November 19, 2010 #31 Share Posted November 19, 2010 Here is what was posted for the Star Princess April 1 - 22, 2012 Freeport I am seeing now on the Princess website that the Star is going to change itinieraries and not end up in Ft. Lauderdale for the April drydock. She is now going to San Francisco arriving there April 3. Is there a dockyard near there that she will be going to for drydock? I guess I should really call Princess to see about this as I'm not sure I'd want to take the final cruises prior to drydock. Perhaps it's been postponed though. Any info anyone has would be appreciated!
goodie2shoes Posted November 19, 2010 #32 Share Posted November 19, 2010 The Star Princess is sailing out of San Francisco on April 13 for a RT Hawaii. We booked her today. I don't know what is happening between April 3 and April 13, but it can't be too serious in only 10 days.
StLouisCruisers Posted November 19, 2010 #33 Share Posted November 19, 2010 Yes, I just looked and see that the Star is doing several RT Hawaii cruises from San Francisco, but I don't know what it will be doing from April 3-13 2012, either. I'd better check with Princess. We may be looking at doing a Rio to Santiago, Santiago to San Francisco, and a RT Hawaii in 2012 if they aren't loading up the ship with contractors for a drydock. First I have to win the lottery! Edited to say, I just looked further and see the Star will do a 10 day Mexican Riviera cruise on April 3, 2012, between two RT Hawaii cruises. Interesting! Still don't know when it will be in drydock, though.

No idea if they will drydock there, or do it in Freeport before going around, or do it some totally different schedule than posted earlier. Gregory67 Posted November 19, 2010 #35 Share Posted November 19, 2010 I know that when Island Princess was in drydock in Canada, they got a MUTS screen installed as well as some other things.
FLACRUISER99 Posted November 19, 2010 #36 Share Posted November 19, 2010 Grand will likely get MUTS if it doesnt have it, shore power, new carpet, new mattresses, new paint top and bottom in drydock and a few surprises. Look at the cruise Cruise planner fro Alaska and it has most of the changes, compare those with your brochure.I hope they fix the floors in the forward elevators. fnewman Posted November 20, 2010 #37 Share Posted November 20, 2010 The STAR will be repositioning from Santiago to San Francisco on March 3, 2012, 16 days, then doing several Hawaii sailings thereafter.

ginbuck Posted November 21, 2010 #41 Share Posted November 21, 2010 Why would Princess release brand new itineraries that include the dates Star is supposed to be in drydock according to this schedule? I don't think that the drydock will still be April 1 2012 based on the new schedule of sailings just released.
Idratherbeatsea Posted November 21, 2010 #42 Share Posted November 21, 2010 We were on the Star at the end of Oct this year. During the CC party the Captain said that she was scheduled for 3 weeks in dry dock in one years time.

I don't think that the drydock will still be April 1 2012 based on the new schedule of sailings just released. Drydock schedules do change. It sounds like they have been changed for both the Star and the Sapphire. All of the brochures say that the Sapphire is going into drydock next all, but the only gap in sailing schedule is next January. You can never count on the drydock dates when booking a future cruise you 'think' will be just after drydock, as it might be re-scheduled. ;)
ginbuck Posted November 22, 2010 #44 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Yep, looks like Star has a gap between 11/14, 2011 and December 8 repositioning. Good! We will be on her in February and March 2012.
califgary Posted December 10, 2010 #45 Share Posted December 10, 2010 We just booked the STAR in March 2012 SF-Hawaii and if you are correct, she'll have been in drydock end of 2011 so that leaves a good couple months after --- very excited! Love itineraries out of San Francisco!!

We will be on her in February and March 2012.It does appear that a Venice-Rome cruise and Rome-Venice cruise have been canceled creating a 24 day window for a potential drydock. With the Star ending up on the West Coast after the SA cruises it appears that she might be the fourth ship to be added to the Alaska Voyager of the Glaciers itinerary as promised for 2012. I wonder if they are going to do it his time. The length of the drydock should give them the time. I read on another post that the remaining upgrades would be completed during the next drydock. With all the posts about the removal of Skywalkers on the Grand I wonder about it on the Star.
