Cruise Music

I'm still reliving our November cruise, and with the weather finally warming up, I want to make a nice CD of songs that remind me of cruising, beaches, foo-foo drinks, and vacations.

Obviously Jimmy Buffett will be included, and I'm also going to use the Kenny Chesney/Uncle Kraker (When The Sun Goes Down) song. I'm usually a country music fan, so I like songs from country singers.

What other suggestions do you have? What song puts you in the mind of cruising, vacations, beaches, things like that?

The Carnival Triumph piped in two very wonderful songs over the pool area that still describes the Caribbean to me: "Orinoco Flow" and "Caribbean Blue", both by Enya, a northern Irish woman who plays a number of Irish musical instruments and has a refreshingly lilting voice. You can find both songs on her "Paint The Sky With Stars" CD. Carnival used Orinoco Flow in their TV advertisements years ago; the lyrics repeated "Sail away, sail away, sail away" while showing computer-generated tropical fish swimming to the beat.

Hope this helps!

Although the band was good on my Caribbean cruise on the Constellation, they did not have a steel drum. Still, if you don't have Poindexter's Hot Hot Hot, you can always go to this site to hear a sample -- http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002WJ7/ref=m_art_li_4/002-9065589-0712062?v=glance&s=music

I made a cruise CD for a family reunion cruise last year and everyone loved it. I called it "Lovely Cruise" and It's Been a Lovely Cruise was the final song on the CD, Some of the choices were:

Come Sail Away (Opening song)
Montego Bay
Volcano
Cruisin'
Day-O
If I Had a Boat
Coconut
One Love
The Weather is Here, Wish you were Beautiful
Hot Hot Hot
Kokomo

and many more with an emphasis on Buffett since I'm a big parrothead.

I found some great clipart for the cover of a sailboat on the water with a big sun in the sky. It was a simple drawing and was a great cover.

I just started looking through all of my CDs to see what I already had and went from there.

I'll be making another one for our next family reunion cruise in 2005. There are a lot of great songs about sailing, vacationing, being on the water or just with an island flavor.

It's a great reminder of the islands when you need a "fix" and can't get away.

Enjoy!

These are both oldies but I like Back to the Island by Leon Russell and Barbados by Poco. Anything by Bob Marley or Jimmy Cliff is also great.

If you're a country music fan, besides "It's 5:00 somewhere" by Alan Jackson, don't forget "Two Pina Colada's" by Garth Brooks and also "No shoes, no shirt, no problem" by Kenny Chesney. They are all included on my "Countdown to Caribbean" CD that I start playing when it starts getting close to cruise time, or when I just need to relax...........ahhhhhhhhh.

Try Elvis Crespo's greatest hits with Suavemente for Merenge. It will make you feel like your on deck at the sail away parties!

How about "Who let the dogs out". On second thought .... no.

dmk, think that "Sailing" was Christopher Cross but could be wrong.

For us a dose of Jimmy is good enough. There is actually a very good cover artist in Columbus (Chris Longdren (sp?)) that does a great job.
