Locals flashing their lights

The last time we cruised out of Ft. Lauderdale was many many yrs ago & the ritual for the locals was to flash their lights from their apt. or condo. when a ship left port. Do they still do that? Maybe too many ships now?

I was on 2 ships out of FLL this past year and never saw "lights" flash did see afew young ladies do it once. Not sure if our ship was special or they did it for all of them.

This reminded of the time my wife, son and I were sailing on the Crown Princess (Ithink) out for FT Lauderdale... a small boat was travelling alongside the ship when we were pulling out and sailing down the waterway and a young woman bent over and "flashed" (ill leave it to your imagination) the passengers...

On our last few cruises, we were still at the muster station when the ship sailed--not much flashing going on there!
