who will replace Ryan as concierge on the Pearl?

We just got off the Pearl a week ago. We stayed in a AB suite on deck 11. I was NOT as wowed about Ryan as past posters have been. We only saw him a couple of times the entire cruise and when we did we were underwhelmed.

Except for knocking on our door as he was escorting the villa peeps to the bridge, he was almost invisible to us and he never stopped by our room to check on us.

We did cross Ryan's path the two times we went to the priority disembarking meeting area in the Star Bar. Our first time there, day three of the cruise, he needed to ask my name. The second time we saw him, also at the Star bar, was Saturday night the last day, and he needed to ask our cabin number. He made almost no effort to get to know who we were.

Karen our concierge on the Sun in 2008, knew our names after the first day, and visited our cabin nightly. I know the Pearl has many more suites, but I do expect at least a couple of visits to the cabin during a seven day cruise.

The story was different for the villa passengers. Ryan seemed to much more comfortable with them.

What made the cruise the best ever was our Butler, Emelia. She was awesome!! She took great care of us. She kept our room fully stocked with cookies, brownies and hot chocolate for the kids and pots of coffee for my DW. Emelia made sure our every need was taken care of. I liked the Lavaza coffee, my DW didn't, and Emelia made sure it was stocked with Espresso and Lemon Tea pods.

My son liked eating his breakfast in the room, and she made him feel like a king as she served him each morning. She also brought us nightly snacks from the Blue Lagoon.

She absolutely made up for the lack of service from Ryan so we gave her his tip as well as hers.

Have never had Ryan as our concierge, but have had four others (some more than once). We traveled in Owners suites most of our cruises, and except for once each cruise, have never had a concierge stop by our room. I don't understand the problem. Our concierge have always been in the Star bar or reachable by phone. Every request we had was acted upon, and I frankly would have felt imposed upon, if they stopped by unannounced.

Did any request not get acted upon?

Ryan didn't say anything about transferring, and I didn't ask him either.

This was our first time in a suite, and the fairy called and upgraded that AD to an AA. Ryan didn't stop by our room. I guess it would have been a nice touch, but we were getting such attentive service from Jonathan, the butler, that it never occurred to me that Ryan should swing by.

Ryan got everything done that we asked. And he knew our names right after the first meeting. But then, we did call him a few times early on for reservations and a question about priority disembarkation in Juneau. Maybe that's the only reason our name stuck with him?

Oh, I forgot..... There was a slight mix up while trying to board the first day. The agent apologized profusely and had told Ryan what happened, then took us to Ryan and explained a few things to him. Maybe that helped us stick in his mind too?

Ryan was professional and very helpful. He wasn't especially personal like the butler. I just figured they each have a different role.

I read in the really long thread about concierges in general that Ryan was leaving after this week.... for vacation maybe? I can't remember now where those in the know said he was going.... but I never saw any mention of his replacement.

Just wondering who might be there come the end of August.

Sounds like we were really spoiled by the Concierge on our first suite cruise. She set a bar that forever I'll be holding other Concierge's to.

The Concierge's are the managers of the entire Butler team, and in fact make the Butler assignments to the different suite areas. As part of their job, I do expect the Concierge to stop by the cabins to see if each passengers needs and expectations are being met by his staff.

to answer the OPs question, in the thread about names of the HD, CD etc, someone said Ryan would be leaving in september for a vacation. Sounds like he must have moved up his plans.

I don't know if it was ever said who was replacing him or for how long.

He is going to another boat. He is going to be the personal concierge for the big owner of NCL. Thats what he told us three weeks ago. He was great, help me out with some reservations and some shore outings.

I think Butlers and c have slightly different duties so I can't quite understand why you are comparing him with Emelia? As for knowing our names, Ryan knew ours and called us by our names from the first minute.

We were not even in a suite, but we did have Ryan as we were still VIPs. He couldn't have been much better. The only one we have even had that even came close was Carlos way back when...

Everyone has different experiences, I am disappointed to hear he is leaving, Anyone know where he is going?

us too, same as you. We have had access even if they didn't stop by. Actually Carlos did, but that was the old Sea with almost no suites etc and he had plenty of time to assist us. He did pop in everynight. In fact we were to have VIP treatment but not the other 2 couples we were with, as it turned out we all 3 got great treatment. The one that was the worst was on Celebrity. I mention Carlos stopped by, he did this when our doors were open and the three couples were enjoying happy hour together each evening.

Ahh, smoochie Carlos. Nice guy, buut I used to hide from that fella.

Nothing like gettin' kissed by someone you don't even know.

Very European I guess, but Carlos wasn't European

but he was from So America wasn't he? I would consider that the same or close anyway. I wonder where he is now?

Ryan is leaving next week to go to the Jade for a week, then going to The Gem. I don't know who is replacing him on The Pearl....but I do know that he was a fantastic Concierge, and one that we would adore to have again!:)

We just got back from the Pearl yesterday, and our concierge was Pearl (easy to remember her name right away!)...

She remembered our names right away, and would greet us by name whenever we saw her around the ship.
