twinklen01 Posted June 30, 2010 #26 Share Posted June 30, 2010 a coworker of mine went on a carnival cruise a few months ago and she complained she would never go on one again. She's sticking to RCL. I just listened because even though i've only been on one, i loved it!!!! She's kind of snoby so i was surprised she cruise on it. I dont mind one less person to take up space and shes one I wouldnt want to bump into on vacation-lol! I was in heaven! Loved the food, shows everything even my interior room :)
spleenstomper Posted June 30, 2010 #27 Share Posted June 30, 2010 At a Disney World hotel, I witnessed a man attempting to beat his wife (I saw him pull her hair). They were out by the pool. (yes, I called security). Your friend is entitled to her opinion, no matter how whacked it is. Just let it be.
yellowbird23 Posted June 30, 2010 #28 Share Posted June 30, 2010 Trailer trash she says? Is she referring to older singles or the exclusive double wides? She apparently hasn't seen "trailers" in a while either!:D
kimscruisin Posted June 30, 2010 #29 Share Posted June 30, 2010 One previous post said one friend took a Princess cruise, the other said Holland America, and referred to Carnival as "trailer trash". I might be mistaken but isn't Carnival the parent company to both of those lines?
icanshine Posted June 30, 2010 #30 Share Posted June 30, 2010 so i was on cruise critics reveiwing some ports of call for our up-coming 7 day on the dream on october 7th when a friend of mine said " i don't understand why you cruise they are like the trailer trash of vacations?" I can't tell you how upset i got. iI could not believe she said that needless to say i flew off the handle. i explained to her that it is not like that at all. furthermore i am able to take 2 seven day cruises a year usually a balcony for a very reasonable price. i would not be able to fly to the caribean for a week without spending at least double that. i called her a snob. was i wrong for getting so upset at her opinion? i don't see how she even can make an assumption considering she has only been on one cruise on holland to alaska with her grandmother when she was 18!!! i will say i am not blind i have noticed trashy behavior on my cruises but don't you see that on most vacays at some point?? she said she was sorry for offending me but i never heard an apology for being so close minded. thanks for letting me vent Wow, that is very hurtful, and coming from your friend, about your vacation, makes it worse. I don't think you over reacted at all. I think your friend was the rude one.
chickie_mite Posted June 30, 2010 #31 Share Posted June 30, 2010 My sister in law said something to that effect when we invited her on the cruise we are taking IN TEN DAYS!!!! (WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!). ... Her loss. But being that she's never been on Carnival, I don't see how she can make ANY assumptions. Honestly, in my experience I've seen "trashy" behavior on each line I've been on. Like someone said.... Money doesn't buy class. And in some cases... money produces trash... I've seen more rude, obnoxious behavior from extremely wealthy families than your run of the mill middle class family. Sweet Jesus....now I'm going to have the "Countless" LuAnn's song in my head the rest of the day! LOL
babyher Posted June 30, 2010 #32 Share Posted June 30, 2010 I whole heartedly agree with everyone else here . Never mind what others say and enjoy your cruises. Big deal her father is a neuro surgeon . My brother in law and every other male in his family are cardiologists , and surgeons . When it comes to class and manners and personality you can keep them :( After all these years I still laugh when people compare certain lines and the ambiance of the dining rooms to a country club . As if a country club is the last word in class and chic. My sister waitressed and bussed tables in high school at our local country club. The creme de la creme of society .........BULLS*** .........a bunch rich snobby middle aged drunks trying to get some off of whoever they can . Including the underage waitresses and buss girls. But as some of the fashion people here will agree. They were always impeccibly dressed so some how that made it OK :):):)
Bakincakes Posted June 30, 2010 #33 Share Posted June 30, 2010 I don't think it helps that many TAs portray Carnival as the "cheap" line. I know a TA that used photos of cars to "grade" cruises. Carnival was the Volkwagon and she sold those cruises as the bottom of the line. Carnival has also had a bad reputation as a "drink and puke" line..with drunks all over the place. I think they are working overtime to try and change that image that they have had. I sailed Carnival once..many years ago, (during the Kathy Lee Gifford years) and had a horrible time...have never been back since. But have met many people who sail with Carnival and enjoy it. I've also met many pax who seem embarassed to be on Carnival. I was talking with a woman in Grand Cayman as we waited to join up with our excursions. I asked which ship she was on and she actually leaned over and whispered "I'm on Carnival" as if she had committed a crime.
elcuchio24 Posted June 30, 2010 #34 Share Posted June 30, 2010 Ever been on an all inclusive? There's plenty of trash there too, unless you opt for a 20k a week resort, which is just not in the cards for 99% of us. I really never have had a cruise with too much bad behavior. A cruise, for us, is the best vacation we could ask for. The fact that its' resonably priced is just icing on the cake....

I didn't know how easy it is to book on your own. Anyway, I was doing my own research via the internet and already knew which ship, intenerary etc... when I went in to actually book, she did EVERYTHING in her power to get me to change cruiselines. I stuck to my guns because the price difference was so great. Bottom line, I have only cruised Carnival, we had a great time and I personally see no reason to go to another line. I would not be opposed to trying another line, but everytime I compare pricing, Carnival wins. I have only encountered obnoxious drunks twice, once was a guy by himself in the casino, the other was a couple from TX in the piano bar. Did it ruin my cruise? HECK NO! I figure if I only run into 2 really drunk people out of 3000 pax...I am doing better than when I am in my hometown on a Saturday night!

cherbear4000 Posted June 30, 2010 #39 Share Posted June 30, 2010 Sounds like your friend is just jealous she is not going on a cruise!! My parents are in their 60s/70s. They have enough money to vacation anywhere in the world first class. Their favorite vacations are cruises and their favorite line is Carnival. In fact they are treating 10 of us to the Freedom 7/31/10! The last word I would ever use to describe my parents or our family is 'trailor trash'. triplee Posted June 30, 2010 #40 Share Posted June 30, 2010 Hey, Hey Hard-Eight! LOL!!! I love my little KIA Rio5!! It is great for a little commuter car in the D.C. area! As an adult, I have only cruised on Carnival. I have seen a few folks who had too much to drink, but heck, I am on vacation! I don't let someone else ruin my cruise! A cruise is what you make of it. Now that I have Platinum status and can get VIP boarding, why would I want to go to the back of the line with another cruise line? LOL! Also, being a CCL stockholder, I enjoy the OBC (also good on Princess, Holland, Costa to name a few). Lee

parrotthead Posted June 30, 2010 #43 Share Posted June 30, 2010 Girls you know your 'friend' is jealous! (and is she that good of a friend to say something like that?) I dont care if people want to say Carnival is Trailer Trash Vacation... thats fine with me, while *Im sailing 3 times a year*, they can have what ever they deem 'good enough' for them....(usually Once a year) While Im looking at the beautiful blue Caribbean, they can be at work staring at their cubicle walls. Its ok...to each their own. Leaves more room in the Trailer for US!!! :p
elcuchio24 Posted June 30, 2010 #44 Share Posted June 30, 2010 Even if you consider CCL to be a 'discount' line, it is pretty rash to go ahead and label it 'trailor trash'. Honestly, even if someone can only afford the cheapest cruise on a CCL ship, they are sill probably in the top 20th percentile in the socio-economic makeup of this country. We should all remember how fortunate we are to be ABLE to take a nice vacation, when so many folks in this country and around the world struggle to make ends meet everyday..... glrounds Posted June 30, 2010 #46 Share Posted June 30, 2010 look at it this way, the more people that have this attitude about cruising, the less passengers we have to compete with for good cabins. ;) Exactly the way I look at it, halos. Supply and Demand . . I also wish a larger portion of the cruising populace had that attitude.;) Carnival struggling to fill ships lowering prices on a daily basis. Carnival calling me everyday offering me deals I just cannot refuse. I would love it.:D As a matter of fact, to be honest, whenever anybody BAD-MOUTHS Carnival, we should all adamantly agree with them. Every little bit helps. :D

I don't think we would dare call the "tilted one"'s nice trailer "trash". And I know you couldn't have been talking about me when you mentioned drinking too much. Why don't you just suggest she give Carnival a try instead of Holland America? Kind of twists the comment back on to her. I have been on both Holland America and Carnival, both lines were a lot of fun, differences were more in the size of the ship than in the people on them.
