happytravelleruk Posted July 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2010 We will be in Bergen on Arcadia in August and hope to do our 'own thing' . However I can't walk too far and I gather Bergen is quite hilly in places so I was interested in the town train. How often does this run, and how easy is it get on - is it a free for all or can you buy tickets in advance? Thanks.
Beckyfaye-2008 Posted July 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2010 The point of departure and return for the train is by the harbour in front of Hanseatic Museum. Up until the 21st Aug it runs every half hour and the journey takes about an hour. After 21st Aug it runs every hour. The tour takes you through the central streets of the city past the fish market and along the colourful port, Bryggen. Also takes you up a section of Mount Floyen, to enjoy a panoramic view of Bergen. This was taken from a 2008 brochure. As a rule you dont need to make reservations in advance. Try this site http://www.Bergensexpressen.no or the tourist office http://www.visitBergen.com. Sorry this is in Norwegian. Here is a photo of the train, further photo's can be found of Bergen, click on my flik'r photo site
happytravelleruk Posted July 11, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks for the info. Bergen looks a little hilly so I thought the train may make it easier to see things but it looks like I will have to take my chances with the queue. We have looked at your photos before - they are great!
