Imhotep Museum in Saqqara . . . Any Thoughts?

I'm gathering information in preparation for my upcoming Med cruise aboard the NCL Jade in May 2011 which includes an overnight in Alexandria. While researching Memphis/Saqqara on Trip Advisor, I ran across 2 reviews for the Imhotep Museum. The 2 reviews were positively glowing - used "phrases like "shouldn't be missed" and "best museum in Egypt".

So, has anyone visited the Imhotep Museum in Saqqara? Is it really "not-to-be-missed"?

I was there a couple weeks ago on an Overseas Adventure Tour (OAT) package that included just about every temple, pyramid, tomb, and museum in the Cairo, Luxor, Answan, Abu Simbel, Kom Ombo, and Nile River areas; and Petra, Wadi Rum, and Amman in Jordan. In my opinion the Imhotep Museum was not all that impressive compared to the Luxor and Cairo museums.

I did enjoy visiting Pharaoh Djoser's Step Pyramid site and to some extent the museum did offer additional details, information, and artifacts, etc.; however, I wouldn't consider it a "shouldn't be missed" museum and/or the "best museum in Egypt". The # 1 museum in Eqypt has to be the Egyptian Museum in Cairo based on the sheer volume of artifacts including the famous Pharaoh Tutankhamen tomb collection.

This museum was inc. with our tour to Bent pyramid and Red one,,,so it was informative and interesting,,,but only in context of going to the other pyramids,,,not destination in itself...

Agree with above poster, after the Cairo museum,,all else is a distant second...seeing King Tut with no lines, come on, how great...but, hey, you re in Egypt ,,how bad could anything be,right???Great experience....:)

I agree with above posts, it is not the best museum in Egypt, but i also agree it shouldn't be missed. it is very interesting museum and it exhibits a mummy. it is incl. the area ticket.

it is next to VISUAL SETTING HALL, it is interesting too.'should't be missed'
