SALERNO excursion question

Hi,

Our time in Salerno/Naples port will be from 7am - 7pm. I heard the view from the mountain in Capri is worthwhile. I also have heard that the Amalfi Coast is spectacular. The ferry runs from Saleron to Amalfi, then Positano, then Capri. Is that sufficient to enjoy the Amalfi beauty?

Or should we try to get off an earlier ferry at either Amalfi or Positano (which?) to spend more time strolling and then take a later ferry on over to Capri?

Or rent a car, drive to Amalfi, drop it and then take the ferry to Capri? Would the Amalfi Coast or Capri be higher in priority? Is there anything to see/do in Capri besides the funicular to the mountaintop?
