fossilcreekranch Posted July 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2010 I know we need to keep our SS card with us in order to get back in our room and buy drinks, etc. Where do people carry their cards? The last cruise I was on, Carnival, people carried it around on a lanyard that they gave out in the casino. It was kind of tacky, but it was better than lugging around a purse all day. I'll be on the Solstice in a week! So....how do you Celebrity folk carry your cards?

STXCruisers Posted July 17, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2010 I use a lanyard. You can buy one in the gift shop onboard or get one from Cruise Critic (theirs are too wide for me). Yes, maybe a little tacky, but I don't have to carry a purse or have a pocket and I always have it when I need it. I have DH carry it for me on formal nights. There are some lanyards which are more attractive than others. Some look like jewelry; some are thinner and less colorful than others (which I prefer). You get your card punched at guest services so that it won't be damaged. They have two kinds of punchers, depending on the type of lanyard you have. Hope your Celebrity cruise is wonderful and the first of many. Happy sailing! Doris
marieps Posted July 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2010 Use a lanyard if you don't mind people knowing that you're new to cruising. The point is not where you carry it, but where you leave it in the room. Pick a spot in the cabin where you will place the card whenever you are there and do not deviate. Most misplaced cards, IMHO, get misplaced right in the cabin.

I'm always looking for that card in the morning. Next cruise I'm pcking the same spot for each night to put that crazy thing.

We aren't new to cruising but always use a lanyard. The ones we use have a plastic sleeve we slip our cards into and we can tuck any receipts down the back. I usually drop mine under my shirt so it's not always visable but my husband doesn't bother. It's a matter of convenience, not whether you are a new cruiser. dixieva Posted July 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted July 17, 2010 We keep our cards on lanyards too. On every cruise we buy some small hooks that have adhesive stuff on the back. You can stick these on the wall and we keep our lanyards hanging up on these hooks. Works great. We usually put them on the wall in the hallway near the door so we won't forget to grab them when we leave the room. When the cruise is over you just pull a tab on the hook and it will come off the wall with no damage to the wall.

When I was a new cruiser, I carried mine in pockets, etc., and was always losing it:eek: (yes, usually somewhere in the cabin). Some more experienced cruisers recommended the lanyard and it works nicely for me.:) It is easy to tuck into your shirt, always there when you need it, and easy to see when you put it down in the cabin. eandj Posted July 17, 2010 #9 Share Posted July 17, 2010 Pocket, purse or inside pocket of my beach bag. Can't stand the thing hanging around my neck. On sea days and evenings I often leave the key to dh and I don't carry mine on the ship.
KarenMR Posted July 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted July 17, 2010 If you are female and, (ahem) well enough endowed, you can tuck it into the top of your bra and no one even can see that it's there. Maybe that's not a common thing, dunno, but I've never lost mine! :) Works for swimsuits, too! Perhaps TMI but, hey, you asked!

BKFlowerMound Posted July 18, 2010 #14 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I carry mine in my pocket but my son uses a lanyard. We were on the Solstice on the July 4 cruise and expected to be able to buy one in the gift shop. Trouble was that they were sold out. They didn't know when or if they were going to get anymore. If you are leaning toward a lanyard, bring one with you.
CathyCruises Posted July 18, 2010 #15 Share Posted July 18, 2010 This is just my experience. Princess in Tahiti, everyone had lanyards and on a tropical vacation with lots of swimming it worked well. I don't recall ever seeing a lanyard on any of our Celebrity Med cruises. I just keep mine in my pocket, or DH's pocket!
bighairtexan Posted July 18, 2010 #16 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I also tuck my card into my cleavage (along w/ my phone and my ipod). I figure I can leave my purse someplace, I can change capris and leave it in my worn pair. But my cleavage is always w/ me and I never misplace it. ;-)
gdpups Posted July 18, 2010 #17 Share Posted July 18, 2010 Design GO makes a nifty little black holder that's just the right size for the card and maybe some casino bucks. It's called "hide away", has a zipper and clips on to the inside of the waistband of your pants. I purchased it on a cruise I was on last year, but couldn't find them on my last several cruises. I love it so much I came home from my last cruise, went online and ordered several more just in case I ever lose mine. I believe Amazon also carries them. skt4cruise Posted July 18, 2010 #21 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I used to put it in my Blackberry case next to the phone and almost daily it would clear it and I'd have to go back to the service desk to have it swiped again, finally I figured out the problem, so don't carry it in pocket with cell phones. I found a pretty handmade lanyard, using that next.

cheryl20772 Posted July 18, 2010 #23 Share Posted July 18, 2010 What is a sail and sign card? Newbie here. Most cruise lines will issue a card (like a credit card) to each passenger. The card has a magnetic stip on the back that contains your shipboard account information. It's used like a key to enter your cabin. It also is swiped every time you make a shipboard purchase to keep track of your transactions. You don't want to lose it or someone could find it and spend a lot on your account. The credit card you associate with your shipboard account gets charged for anything you buy using your sign and sail card. It's also your "key" to get off and on the ship during your cruise. These make nice small souvenirs to keep from all your cruises.
CathyCruises Posted July 18, 2010 #24 Share Posted July 18, 2010 Also called a SeaPass among other things, it's the card you get when you check in that serves as your door key and on-board credit card. No cash is used on the ship, so whenever you buy a drink or a souvenir or use the spa services they just swipe your card and you pay up at the end. They also swipe the card when you leave the ship and then re-swipe when you get back on to keep track of the passengers! You need it for everything--so keep it safe! judyfssw Posted July 18, 2010 #25 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I have a friend who makes jewelry and she made me a beautiful beaded lanyard. I carry my seapass on that especially when on Princess so I can use it in the casino. Otherwise, I carry it in the leather case the ships provide and put it in my pocket.
