What type of things would you look at doing. Heaps of great accom in the city and surrounds.

I would suggest the travel lodge southbank. Its a good price, a little cheaper than other places, you can literally walk everywhere - its 100 metres to the casino, 100 metres to city centre and fed square, 100 metres to botanic gardens/myer music bowl, 20 metres from cafe's and restaurants of southbank. Rooms are spacious and comfortable (actually, its pretty comparable to some 4 and 5 start hotels we have stayed in.

Check tripadvisor for reviews and comments - it gets a very good mention!

Hi Ross,

The Langham on Southbank is great, David & I have stayed there a couple of times, right in the centre of things.

It really does depend on what your are planning on doing. If you aren't planning on staying in town there is always the option of a lovely B&B in the Dandenongs.

What price range are you looking at? Would you like something in the CBD?

My suggestion if you want somewhere fancy is Crown Towers, smack bang in the middle of the Southbank, 5 min walk to central CBD, also has Casino, and alot of our fancy restaurants, cinemas etc, all under one roof :)
